Father of Reina discusses Real Madrid links; chances of retiring at Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Miguel Reina, the father of AC Milan goalkeeper Pepe Reina, has spoken about his son’s future amid links with an exit.

Reports from MilanNews.it earlier in August stated that Keylor Navas was set to depart Real Madrid, and that Milan could lose Reina as a result

Spanish outlet AS (via MilanNews) claimed that Los Blancos are targeting Reina as a new back-up to Thibaut Courtois, with Andriy Lunin currently out on loan at Real Valladolid.

It was suggested by the report that Reina was in fact keen on the move, and things could become more concrete in a meeting during the last week of the mercato, but nothing eventually materialised.

The player’s father Miguel was interviewed by the microphones of Milannews.it outside the La Madonnina clinic, where Ante Rebic is currently undergoing his medical.

“Out of respect I can’t give you much explanation,” he said regarding the links between his son and Real.

“I was outside of the talks. The player and the club know the truth. Pepe is very happy in Milan.”

On Pepe’s relationship with Gianluigi Donnarumma, he added: “He has a companion who is a great goalkeeper. Sport gives you nothing, you have to work day after day.

“Pepe is a born worker, I hope that in the long run he can have his reward.”

Could Pepe retire at AC Milan?

“For Pepe it would be fantastic. Playing for Milan is fantastic for him, they are a club seven times the champions of Europe. He is 100% satisfied.”
