From Spain: Real Madrid eye Reina as replacement for Navas

By Isak Möller -

According to the latest reports, Keylor Navas has asked to leave Real Madrid, as several clubs are interested in his services. Therefore, the Bernabeu side are working to find a replacement.

As reported by the Spanish outlet AS, president Florentino Perez has set his sights on AC Milan’s Pepe Reina, who joined the Rossoneri last summer on a free transfer. Just one year later, he could be on the move again.

The Rossoneri currently have four goalkeepers in their squad (Gigio and Antonio Donnarumma, Reina, Jungdal), which is considered too many by the management. Therefore, their initial plan was to offload Antonio Donnarumma.

However, should Real Madrid decide to make a move for the 36-year-old goalkeeper, then Milan could end up keeping both the Donnarumma brothers ahead of the upcoming season.

In addition to an expected compensation fee, albeit a small one, the Rossoneri would also save quite a lot on not having to pay Reina’s salary. The goalkeeper currently earns €3m per year with the San Siro side.
