According to reports this afternoon, AC Milan are readying a bid for Santiago Gimenez, despite losing potential January sales.
In recent years, Milan have been an opportunist club. Often things have operated with a model of sell-to-buy and it seemed this was going to continue into the January mercato. However, this is not the case it seems, with links to Gimenez growing.
Reports have suggested that a move would have to be funded by outgoings, but this may not be the case as the Rossoneri are preparing to make a bid.
Matteo Moretto reports that the club will make a ‘first official offer’ to Feyenoord today for the Mexican striker, and the Dutch club are not closed off to a mid-season sale. However, the figures must be right, as expected.
An ‘irrenounceable’ offer will have to be made to the club, with current plans being to keep the striker until June ‘at least’ however, if an acceptable offer arrives, then it will be considered and potentially expected.
The report states that the Diavolo are prepared to offer the 23-year-old striker a deal until 2027 with the option of an extra year, but discussions about a contract are still ongoing, so it could still change before the deal is wrapped up.
Hogwash, Sure Milan offering maybe 30-35 mil or something and then offering him a 2.5 year contract with an option for a further year, doesn’t really make any sense to not secure ones expenssive deal better.
They flopped a lot of buyings recently.
Short contracts could be new standard.
Really? So we sign someone in a short contract that is already high, they play well and then when we’re like ok let’s do a long term contract they’ll ask for a salary that’s too high and then we’ll immediately be into a situation where we’re looking to sell in the last year of their contract. The potential losses are huge.
Even so then it still isn’t wouldn’t be good for the books as the deal will be spread over a shorter amount of time. A 2.5 year deal wouldn’t make any sense to me and ieven with an option for a further year it would still push a potential renewal back a year which also could be costly. Either they suupport and believes in the deals they make or they can instead spare their trouble as I see it.
Yes. They learned from the mistakes RedBird made with Pioli, Origi and others.
Fonseca was given a short contract with a get out clause. Conceicao is only on a 6 month contract.
If he does well, they will offer him a new, longer term contract to prevent losing him for nothing in 2 years, as they did with Leao and will do with others.
Lol, and what if the player does well and is like “give me 10M per year or I won’t sign an extension”? What then? Suddenly it’s 2026, he’s got a year left, we paid 40M for him and you think some other club is going to come by and pay us what we need not to book a loss (probably around 37M) with one year remaining on contract. Silly.
Thats probably a mistake regarding contract length, wouldn’t make sense for the player, he’d have no protection if injured.
My concern is that clearly Feyenord don’t need or want to sell now.
If it was summer and he was for sale and they asked 40m we could negotiate a bit maybe do a deal for 30 – 35m or so.
Right now I can’t see them selling him unless they get a very attractive offer, perhaps more than the 40m.
Our management are likely to offer 25m or so and will be laughed out of the building.
In Fofana negotiations our management ended up looking quite foolish with their lowball tactics and then essentially paying the asking price after 2 months of time wasting
Clubs will be aware of this now and will probably ask us a higher price or just won’t deal with us
Sorry initially missed your reply SJF, yeah it doesnt sound right even though according to the article its a 2.5 year with an option for a further year it still doesn’t make much sense to me.
Yeah I also doubt the validity or at least I’ll first believe it when I see it mount to something.
In the event of them selling though then they probably already has some South American prodigy lined up as a replacement so maybe there is a small chance of a sale but at this point I doubt it and I definitely doesn’t expect us to get a great discount at 25 mil or something.
I’d love to see him joining us but yes unless our management somehow has decided to change their modus operandi I would be greatly surprised to see us sign him in this January Mercato.
We can do better than Giminez.
Hardly so atm
He is solid
Last year I though so too, but im convinced.
No ! He’s good!!
No! He’s good!!
And definitely can’t be any worse than what we already have!! Basically two defensive cm’s registered as strikers!! Lol
I hope this doesn’t turn into Fofana 2.0 and we miss the window.
Hahaha… actually, I was going to mention that we will start with 15m offer and then wait till deadline day (and that is if we are even serious about getting him).
Don’t trust this hype or rumor or false news, except romano says so.
