Conceicao press conference

CM: Fighting against an ‘agenda’ – Conceicao’s words about position ‘right’

Sergio Conceicao has not been afraid to voice his thoughts since joining AC Milan, and there have been several instances so far. Last night, the latest outburst occurred.

There are coaches that do things behind closed doors, some prefer to voice frustrations, some do a mix of both. For Conceicao, he is in the third category. However, there have been multiple high-profile occasions of things in the public eye.

The disagreement with Davide Calabria, the disagreement with Christian Pulisic, both towards players, whilst he has been more than happy to go against the media, whether that be in press conferences or in post-match comments.

Last night, the Portuguese rebelled once again, and Calciomercato.com has described the latest outburst as fighting an ‘agenda’. The report states that in Italy, the coach is normally the one responsible for problems, but the Milan head coach does not feel that this is the case in his situation.

Instead, he feels that there are also mistakes being made by his team. Regardless of whose fault it is, his future is at risk, and he is being asked questions about it quite regularly, and last night he said that his bags are packed, though again, this is not a first.

Ultimately, he is right to an extent about his position, the fault does not lie entirely with him despite what may be suggested, as the report states, however, his response baffles a little.

Rather than getting others on board, he puts the club into a strange place, whether to back a head coach who is not afraid to make self-indulgent comments that victimise himself, or whether to part ways. Perhaps, Sunday’s result will give us more information on this.

  1. Either way, I think he’s out after Sunday, win or lose. They don’t want to make that change with the quick turnaround for Lazio so once that game is over they’ll announce his exit. Who knows he may announce it himself during the game and leave mid match it’ll beat the record exit that Fonseca set.

    1. 100% backed for Sergio Conceicao. I think that even worse position on the end of the season nothing change. we rather say goodbye to some group of players and will build a new, proper team. that’s all.

  2. Just get the F out you pathetic, insecure, incompetent little clown. You’ve made the team unwatchable with this cowardly, ugly style of football. Small club mentality even against Bologna… No plan, no control over the match, just kicking the ball forward mindlessly in the hopes that maybe Leao can get on the end of one. This is pathetic. Not against MAn City, Not against Liverpool. We are playing this scared style of football against Bologna.
Please go back to the Portuguese League where this nonsense passes as football. You are so far out of your league here.

    1. I honestly think Gattuso was a better coach. He at least had us organized in the back and between the lines. He had no idea how to get us to score but he know how to hold a shape and how to get the players to run and die for the shirt. He would be a great caretaker for the end of the season if it isn’t Tassotti. I also have no idea if he’s currently coaching right now…

    2. Too much player are in the comfort zone. Like leao with always minimum effort on the pitch. They should learn from pavlovic who’s play like there’s no tomorrow. Always give his 100%. This is not cenceicao team choice. If he extend with Milan next season, it would be a big sale.

      1. I’m tired of people making that excuse for him. First off, Milan currently don’t operate in a way that allows the coach to build the team. They can request 1 or 2 signings but beyond that the management will bring the coach players to train. secondly, He already burned bridges with Morata and Calabria, two players that have flaws but least of which is work rate or desire. He’s now caused riffs with Fofana, Tiji, Pulisic, and Leao. Leao is the only one where you could say he doesn’t work hard enough but the rest have ran their bodies into the ground for this team and they are very upset with him. He’s done and people need to accept that. No off season or 50 million dollar player is going to change the situation.

      2. Must everything be Leao? Pavlovic that was running like headless chicken, very reckless for a center back caused both goal conceded against Bologna, yet Leao is the problem, was Pulisic not with Jimenez when the cross came in for Bologna second goal? Leave Leao alone, he is the best player and the only one that can single-handedly win game for us

  3. I don’t know what coach could stop this Titanic team from hitting the iceberg… Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti etc would probably be scratching their heads wondering what to do with this bunch after a couple of months too..

    1. I think Ancellotti doesn’t scratch his head.
He would use the player’s he have by speaking to them or else he use Young player’s to play for him.
But all this circus isn’t the part of Ancellotti’s style of football.
It’s a circus what’s happening between coach, player’s and team.

  4. I’m genuinely disappointed with him. I was hopeful and positive after the Cup but then it all went to hell. Started clashing with players in front of everyone, crying in media all the time, playing a victim. The pressure got the better of him and now the players turned on him too.

The sooner he’s out, the better. Bring Mauro in for the rest of the season. He’s a smart and calm guy who coached world class players here and know this environment better than anyone that’s around now. And our lads need a bit of stability and calmness.

  5. Conceição has ruined the two best players this season: Reijnders and Pulisic. He has a blind spot regarding the useless João Félix.

At this point, it’s a disaster. Firing Conceição won’t save our season which is already utterly lost. However it would give me some satisfaction to see him fired.

I was extremely hopeful when he was hired and when we beat Juve and Inter in his first two games. But then, he’s been a complete disaster and I’m extremely disappointed.

Of course the managers are to blame too. Lopetegui, Fonseca, Conceição…

I wanted Conceição in the summer. Now I can say that I was wrong.

I’m hoping that after we inevitably lose to Lazio on Sunday, he will be fired.

Who should be the caretaker for the last 12 league games and the 2 Coppa derbies? It doesn’t matter. Nothing can change this sinking ship.

I’m hoping that if we hire a proper Sporting Director things will slowly get better. Bu this management has made so many mistakes, that they probably will select a lousy SD.

I’m no longer feeling like it is justified to be optimistic. We are now a mid-table team, firmly marching towards Banter Era 2.0.

    1. At this point he should be fired just to save the few players we need to build around like the ones you already mentioned. Not only save their mental state but their physical state. I think he’ll be gone after Sunday no matter the outcome of the match. I bet the players play better knowing he’ll be gone too lol.

  6. First Fonseca, was to blame them the players now it’s Conceição. Yet the management or lack there off gets a free pass…again! Because, it’s the coaches fault that management have no vision and lack strategy! Not to mention have no idea on how to run a football club!
    Ok! Words escape me!

    1. Who is giving a free pass to the managers? Most people say that the fault is the managers’. I just said, “Of course the managers are to blame too.” And I added “I’m hoping that if we hire a proper Sporting Director things will slowly get better. But this management has made so many mistakes, that they probably will select a lousy SD.”

Journalists, Curva Sud, posters here, everybody is bashing the owner and the managers.

There are a few misguided people who defend the managers but they are a small minority.

  7. This man ego will continue to destroy this club..! And it begin when he decided to insult captain Calabria right in front of the whole world!!

  8. I think Mr. Sergio is still the best choice for right now. But, in some last games, I don’t like his stubborn. He always plays Felix, Leao and Theo. And use the same formation either.

Players like Gabbia, Bondo, and Sottil, also from youth sector, he never give trust to them. In this side, I prefer Fonseca’s way. He’s not afraid to give trust to subs, from the first minute.

And, if he finally got sacked. Then I think give Tassoti chance to take over the team for the rest season.

Because I want to see, reaction from our team. With Tassoti who is like ‘father’ figure, can he control the team or not.

If our players, especially Maignan, Theo and Leao still like now. Then in the summer, better we sell them, and we hire the ‘right’ coach (but don’t Pioli again), and give him players that he want.

So we can build the new Milan, with the new and ‘right’ coach.

Next season lets build it again from the beginning. No Leao, No Theo, No Maignan, and other players that have no hunger, passion or sacrificing attitude, just sell them. Find and buy players who are not lazy, or like a ‘rich boy’ attitude.

One example is like when Barcelona sell Ronaldinho. And we have seen after leaving Barcelona, his ‘magic’ is so fading. That’s what I see with Theo, Leao and newest is Maignan. They have earned big names from Milan, have been icon for their national teams, but when we expect their commitment when they’re played, especially this season, far from our expectation.

So, better next summer we rebuild again from the beginning, with our new players, that’s what I think.
