Italiano bitter after Milan loss: “We aren’t bringing home points when we deserved them”

By Oliver Fisher -

Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano believes his side did not take from their game against AC Milan the points that they deserved on Sunday night.

Milan made the perfect start to the game when Rafael Leao latched on to a feed from Olivier Giroud to race through on goal, open up his body and finish past Terracciano with a lovely shot into the bottom corner and inside the far post.

However, the away side deservedly drew level before half-time as Antonin Barak was able to finish with a deflected shot taking advantage of Milan’s inability to clear.

It was in the third minute of added time at the end of the 90 that the Rossoneri got their noses back in front as Aster Vranckx’s cross evaded everyone and was kneed into the back of his own net by Nikola Milenkovic.

Italiano spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on the performance and what was a tough end outcome for his side, with his comments relayed by TMW.

“In the first half we were more orderly, in the second the game opened a little with several chances. We had had the clearer ones, yet it’s another game lost in the final minutes because in these situations we have to grow. We aren’t bringing home points when we deserved them,” he said.

Were Fiorentina lacking in the final decision?

“We came here not to give the ball away to Milan, to have personality without throwing away possession. In the first half we did it in an excellent way, in the second we made a mistake in some choices, we made a mistake not to close a game that perhaps we could have gone in front in. When you have an opportunity you have to punish them then a moment makes you lose it.”
