The five key battles that could win or lose the game for Milan against Lazio

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Lazio later this afternoon and after the disappointing draw against Cremonese, the Rossoneri need to bounce back. However, given the quality of the opponents, it won’t be an easy task.

The Champions League race is getting tighter and qualification is indeed at risk for Milan, who have done so well in the competition this season. As a result, they need to finish the season strong, starting with a win today.

Taking a look at the key battles, perhaps the most obvious one is Rafael Leao against Lazio’s Adam Marusic. Milan need the Portuguese winger in full swing this afternoon and the renewal is also imminent, which has clearly helped his mood.

Staying in the attack, Olivier Giroud will be up against his former teammate Alessio Romagnoli, who has done really well for Lazio this season. Both players obviously know each other well so it will be a very interesting battle.

Rade Krunic will most likely keep a close eye on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who will start to the right in Lazio’s midfield. Sandro Tonali will join in on that tussle for sure, but the Bosnian might be the main marker.

Felipe Anderson has had a really good season (12 goals, 9 assists) and he will mainly be up against Theo Hernandez today. Skills against pace, in other words, and the Brazilian will be hoping for some space on the counter.

Finally, Simon Kjaer will have to deal with Ciro Immobile in the box. The striker has a way of always finding the right space and shaking off his market. Milan cannot afford that today.
