The five key battles that could win or lose the game for Milan against Verona

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Hellas Verona at San Siro tomorrow afternoon and after two games without a win, they will be looking to claim all three points. As always, there are a few key battles to keep an eye on.

Although not a direct battle, it’s clear that the goalkeepers will be important tomorrow. Marco Sportiello will be in goal for Milan as Mike Maignan is suffering from muscle discomfort, while Lorenzo Montipo (who has been against the Rossoneri in the past) will start for Verona.

Starting at the back, from Milan’s perspective, Fikayo Tomori will have to do battle with the experienced Milan Djuric. He is not a prolific forward because he has caused many good defenders issues in the past.

Tijjani Reijnders got some rest against Newcastle but came off the bench in the second half. In any case, he will have to be at his best in order to beat Martin Hongla, who most likely will stay close to the Dutchman from minute 1.

Rafael Leao will be looking for revenge after ‘that’ miss against Newcastle and he has good memories from playing Verona at San Siro, scoring a brace in the final game of last season. He will be up against Giangiacomo Magnani, a strong but nowhere near as fast centre-back.

Finally, it looks like Olivier Giroud will start after all and he will take on the Swede Isak Hien. The latter is a strong defender and has decent pace but it remains to be seen if he can handle the Frenchman, who is a lot more experienced and knows all the tricks.
