Florenzi believes win vs. Verona ‘says a lot’ about Milan and discusses Scudetto race

By Isak Möller -

Alessandro Florenzi was a so-called super-sub for AC Milan this evening as he scored just two minutes after coming on. In other words, it was the right decision by Stefano Pioli to bring the right-back on.

Florenzi only just recovered from knee surgery and wasn’t expected to get that many minutes (if any) tonight. Pre-match, he stated that he was ready to help the team and he certainly was ready, finding the back of the net straight away.

It was an important goal for Milan as it took all the nerves out of what could have been a dramatic ending, just one goal up. Speaking to DAZN after the game (via MilanNews), Florenzi shared his thoughts on the situation.

On the victory…

“It says a lot about this group, but not everything. The work is still to be completed, from tomorrow we will immediately think of Atalanta. Let’s enjoy this evening, we deserve it, but on Sunday we are ready for another final.”

On his goal…

“Those who work, in the end, get what they deserve. I have worked a lot in the last month, this goal is for my family that I know loves me.”

On the character of the team…

“There are many young players who seem to have played in Serie A for many years. I arrived in a group with many talented players and people who know how to find the right balance.”

On the Scudetto…

“Let’s not think too far ahead. Let’s just think about this moment and that’s it. The moment is now, it’s time to ride and give everything. Let’s continue like this and think only about Atalanta.”

Milan will take on Atalanta at home next weekend and then they will face Sassuolo in the final round. The finale promised to be dramatic and exciting, but there’s no denying that the Rossoneri are closer to the Scudetto.
