CM: ‘Left some traces’ – Fonseca and Ibrahimovic had debrief at Milanello

Following AC Milan’s narrow victory against Red Star Belgrade, Paulo Fonseca voiced his concerns to the media and today, he spoke with Zlatan Ibrahimovic about the matter.

Fonseca spoke very critically about his squad after the win last night, and it has certainly caused rumblings around the club. Not only has the Portuguese opened a can of worms about who he could be speaking about, but it also is a publication of his issues with the squad, which rarely ends well.

It also opens a chasm. A head coach is supposed to be ‘above’ the players, and with the clear gap between the coach and some of his team, fans may feel like they have to pick a side.

This, imaginably, only opens up problems for all parties, as having fans for or against players or staff, again, never ends well.

Today, Calciomercato.com has reported that after the head coach’s words last night, he spoke with Ibrahimovic about the situation at Milanello today. The report suggests that Fonseca explained himself, which has ‘left some traces in the Rossoneri environment’, with the Swede understanding his actions as a ‘necessity’ to raise levels.

Whilst the report concludes by stating the confrontation was nothing more than a ‘planned scenario’, reports that the management were not present to greet the head coach and squad this morning could open up other unneeded questions about things.

  2. The club isn’t run well. The cracks are popping up everywhere. This goes above Fonseca. The management is failing to contain all the problems.

RedBird brought the financial foundation to build upon but appointing Zlatan was a rookie move. Everything seems disjointed.

No Sporting Director with a vision means it falls on Zlatan to tie this together? With zero experience? Whoever the f**k Ottavio was, apparently SD, he bailed out too. So Zlatan chased out Abate and what joke of a Sporting Director we had.

How’s that working out so far? Add to that the appointment of Fonseca to lead this team forward and you have more problems than answers. Players aren’t all behind him, showings are inconsistent and we can’t even build on important victories. Now Fonseca himself is frustrated at the situation and it becomes evident to even the densest of the minds that he’s out of his element.

Meanwhile management is quiet. Quiet about what zlatan’s role is. Quiet about what the actual adding plan for this club is. Quiet about why Fonseca was chosen (outside of the algorithm). Quiet as to what possesses them to bring in Chicken Royal.

So many questions and no answers.

    1. Personally I believe the issue stems from the fact under Pioli the players got away with everything. Pioli for better or worse wanted to keep them happy unfortunately in a professional setting if constructive feedback and consequences don’t exist then the motivation and standards dip. It’s a fact of life and unfortunately when egos are involved it can get messy especially during a shift in management. I agree with Fonseca every single game a goal is conceded from some silly mistake compounded by a lack of hustle (which adds cover and minimizes the consequences from mistakes). Add into the mix players like Calabria behaving like he does and yet offering nothing really creates a bitter atmosphere.
In spite of what the article suggests after watching Milan decline over the last couple seasons ifs hard not to understand where the coach is coming from.

      1. Finally a sound take… Fonseca isn’t the issue here

This team isn’t built well and you can’t do anything with this level of fullbacks… most goals come from flanks.

Look how well Reijders and Leao developed this season, Pulisic yet again great and Thiaw/Gabbia duo starting to look great.

Theo isn’t a super-man, he needs proper cover. Main RB needs to be found. depth for midfield is vital.

Some turtle clown can’t string 1 sentence and thinks I take this club as Fifa, but the truth is that the coach doesn’t have the players up to standard.

RLC in position style football is a hate crime against the sport, Bennacer is the only one capable and he’s perma-injured. Musah has played everywhere and nowhere at the same time… Pavlovic has language barrier or is just plain slow in the head, Teraccino and Jimenez are not ready yet… Florenzi is out for the season, Jovic is basically gone.

That’s 8 players that don’t contribute to this team, 10 if you include the dynamic duo of the RB role.

        10 out of 26 and some claim it’s not management’s fault…

    2. Yea I feel like Ibra came into a management position and wanted to stamp his mark with big decisions that are now backfiring ie. firing abate.

With Ibra arrogance in the role, he and management clearly feel they’re doing a good job, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ottavio left because he couldn’t do his job.

  3. There are so many players who don’t deserve to play for a team like Milan . There are some poor technically like Emerson Royal and Yunus Musah and other physically not at their top form like Loftus cheek and some who can maintain a sufficient form and concentration during a game like Theo Hernandez and Leao . The team has a lot of problem to resolve .

  4. Idk why people still blaming Paolo, management is none existent. That ship sailed after M&M left. Pioli should have gone then if management really wanted to revitalize stuff. They don’t give the man players no wonder he’s frustrated. Red bird needs to go, he’s done enough damage. This clown is never around. Elliot should have never sold to him. If Elliot end up taking over DO NOT SELL TO BUYERS TAKING MORE THAN 50 PERCENT LOANS. I wish the people vetting the purchasing process was like the one from Chelsea.

    1. M&M leaving had nothing to do with it. The team is poorly constructed and that’s down to Moncada. Redbird have invested heavily and established Futuro, which is the correct thing to do for the long-term. The mistakes they’ve made are appointing Ibrahimovic and keeping on Moncada.

Chelsea? Are you serious? They’ve spent record sums of money and had a high turnover of coaches and players before finally getting it right.

      1. So M&M leaving has nothing to do with right??
Because they didn’t have clear goals and vision. Please what has this management operated under. What is their goals, vision, plan to get there.

Oh wait they just throw playdoh on the walls and expect it to stick. For every 5 to 10 purchase, let’s hope we get a Puli, Reijnders and Fofana. Does not matter if the rest turn out horribly, the squad is wrongly out together, or there is not purpose or reason to why we buy.

  5. There are many reasons for milan decline: some very good investments (reindeers, fofana, pulisic) and other less good investments (royal, terracciano, loftus cheek); a totally unattractive style of play based on possession with loads of back passes and horizontal passing which lead nowhere and enable opponents to regroup; building from the back which often leads nowhere as well; weak attack with no 18-20 goal scorer who can bang them in; totally inefficient management ( furlani ??? Ibra???? Moncada???); weak lateral defenders ( emerson royal!!!! Calabria!!!! Theo who is NOT a defender and always falls to the ground when under pressure); leao who plays 10 minutes per game and scores a good goal or two but then fumbles and slips and falls and loses the ball cheaply; a third rate coach since conte costs a lot for milan; fake interest in milan by cardinale whose ONLY interest is to build a new stadium; no medium to long term vision; a weak strategy in transfer market (losing botman, thuram, taremi, zirkzee, buongiorno and sending kalulu to juve); indecision about new stadium; and a clear interest not to win scudetto but simply to be among top 4/5 to take part in champions league in subsequent year.

Suppose all this is more than enough!!!

    1. Anyone who thinks Conte is the solution hasn’t paid attention to football in 10 years. Lazio and Fiorentina are flying high with largely unknown coaches and little investment, so you can stop pretending money is the issue, it isn’t.
