Journalist Antonio Vitiello has confirmed that Paulo Fonseca’s job was under observation heading into the Verona game, but the management were happy after.
Going into the game on Friday at the Stadio Bentegodi there were reports circulating which suggested that Fonseca would be at risk of being sacked in the event of a negative result. Sky even spoke of Max Allegri being an idea to take over, and to do so immediately.
Speaking in his weekly column for MilanNews, Vitiello states that Fonseca’s position was ‘put under observation’ but the victory in Verona without 10 players due to injury was ‘seen as a reaction from the team’.
Now the game against Roma will arrive to close 2024 and then the Supercoppa, then a series of close matches in which Fonseca ‘will have to respond with results (perhaps trying to win a trophy)’. Otherwise the idea of a change in coach ‘will return to hover over Milanello’.
Admittedly it was far from a vintage performance from the Rossoneri on Friday, with Tijjani Reijnders getting the only goal of the game. The attack continues to struggle, though admittedly the injuries didn’t help, nor did Rafael Leao coming off in the first half.
A lucky win against a relegation team. Which btw held us in check for majority of the game.
They should’ve fired him mid game
Sack and then what? Who will take Milan mid season. Look at Manchester United who lost 3:0 against Bournemouth at home. I would give him time until Leao and Pulisic are back and then see because our defense has been improving. He did show some good games so I’m not sure whether it’s completely his fault. Most of the goals came because of lack of concentration and motivation from the players. Also the management is at fault what is the use of Emerson, Pavlovic, Tammy Abraham none of them brought anything to this team. Fofana and Reijnders are our only midfielders cant expect them to have a perfect game when playing almost twice every week. Not a fan of Foncesca but not sure if we can get any better if we sack him now.
Sack and hire sarri ofc.
Tho I’d also settle for tudor
why do they wait and see sack him now for gods sake if they honestly would go for clownseca then i would just rather stick with pioli
We won one game. We’ll lose the next game, then Fonseca will have “three games to save his bench”, then we’ll win the next game, and it will start all over again.
They have no plans to fire him, they don’t have the balls to admit the screwed up and are just desperately hoping he’ll make ucl spots by end of season (he wont).
One win with one goal against a team that fight relegation and he can stay? Wtf is this management bro wth
