Paulo Fonseca was interviewed by the media after AC Milan’s narrow, as well as crucial, win against Hellas Verona this evening. He admitted that they could have done better, but also that he’s pleased given the circumstances.
The manager made just one change to the starting XI for tonight’s game, replacing Mattia Liberali with Filippo Terracciano, and the defensive solidity from the Genoa draw remained. In attack, however, a moment of brilliance was needed to break the deadlock.
Speaking to DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Fonseca admitted that Milan could have done a lot better in the final third. He also shared an update on Rafael Leao, who left the pitch after around 30 minutes with an injury.
You didn’t move the ball fast enough…
“I think the situation that the players feared arose in the first half. Several players were missing, we hadn’t won the last game… I think we came in a bit slow. It’s true that we didn’t concede chances, and that we had 76% possession, but we weren’t aggressive in the final third, where we made too many mistakes.
“It’s a confidence issue, but if we play a lot of balls on the edge of their area we have to do better. But without so many players, I’m satisfied with the victory, also because it’s very deserved. Another game without conceding a goal, we have to improve offensively.”
Solid at the back now…
“Yes, the centre-backs were very good. Fofana and Terracciano also played a great game. This stability is important in order to attack better. Every game we are more stable defensively.”
How is Leao?
“I spoke to Rafa now, it seems that it’s nothing special. We’ll see tomorrow. It was a precaution to take him off, he didn’t want to risk it. But it seems to me that it’s nothing special.”
How do you explain the injuries?
“Theo isn’t injured. Rafa doesn’t seem to have anything special. Pulisic arrived injured from the national team. Morata has tonsillitis. The problem we had was only with Musah and Loftus-Cheek, the others are things we cannot control.”
Roma are up next, after the Christmas break, and Fonseca should have a few more players at his disposal by then. Many problems remain, though, as tonight’s game was far from a good display by the Rossoneri.
How do you barely beat a relegation team 1-0 and say you had a comfortable victory
So Okafor doesn’t count?
Fonseca: Who?
🤭
IKWYDLS ?
That’s correct, Fonzi is happy in 7th spot on the ladder at Christmas time. This is ACM management’s Christmas present to the loyal Rosso Neri supporters.
What presents do they have for the season? Missing CL for next season, Seria A title to Atalanta or Inter?
May be just no trophies again?
We may have to ask Ibra what plans he has put in place because he is the Boss of one of the biggest teams in Europe floundering in 7th position domestically!
As long as Fonzi remains happy all is good at Milan. Hahaha joke!
We are in 7th yes, but we can only win the games infront of us and hope that we can climb.Complaining about Management won’t make us win the league, we must have faith in Milan, SIEMPRE!!!
This Leao when he knew that in attack the team is handicapped af, he says I’m not risking it. Through Fonseca’s tune, he’d probably be able to at least end the half. Was three important points in the line. All good tho. Get well soon for your Xmas parties!
Acmilan needs build intensity and mentality on this two things pressing system and attacking the opponent Acmilan need to be building their structure on this two concepts the attacking system and the pressing system if Acmilan can adapt to attacking system and pressing system we will by more than one goal margin and that’s were our problem is we don’t constant defensive system. We defend a little and attack more.
A kada misli sve skupa UIGRAT valjda treču sezonu UŽAS !!!
“Speak English..boy”, said the American Cop…
See what I did there!
3 points, great step weekend, what was worrying was the lack steering depth and Camarda should have been given 20 minutes at least, as Abraham gave there central defence an easy route de with very little movement and most of his runs were very predictable.
Thaiw is playing like Tomori of the scuddeto season, pushing forward from the back and we existed of a lot corners, really missing Pulisic deliveries into the box
I think the team lacks confidence, I watched for 60 minutes then I slept off, attacking wise it was poor from the team and sometimes the players don’t know what to do either to move froward or backwards, Chukwueze was poor yesterday always passing the ball backwards, Fonseca want the team to be more defensively that’s while some of the players are confused & lack confidence, we do have more attacking players so a proper DM and a proper striker is needed this January, to have any chance of silverware this season
Furlani should extend fonseca contract, he has cheap salary.
