GdS: Fonseca makes U-turn about Leao return – Okafor to start vs. Monza

Today, reports have suggested that Rafael Leao was on his way to starting in AC Milan’s game against Monza this weekend, but this may not be the case.

With Milan losing against Napoli, an instant bounce-back is needed, and this is why reports have suggested that Paulo Fonseca will look to his stars for inspiration against Monza this weekend. Included in that list was Leao, and whilst it was stated that he was in a ballot against Noah Okafor, it seemed he was heading towards redemption.

This is not the case, though, as Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News) have reported that Okafor will start the game instead. Should Fonseca not change his mind once again, it will be the third time in four games that Leao has started from the bench.

Perhaps, this could be a tactical move with the Champions League clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday night. However, with reports questioning the relationship of Leao and Fonseca, the decision to leave him on the bench will only add to the reported strain.

With Leao reportedly seeking a way out of the club, perhaps as early as January, keeping him on the bench will only push him further out of the door.

    1. You man don’t deserve a player like leao. He’s our best player and you know it. Yall are forcing this hate. If u think leao getting benched for the 3rd time in 4 games is good for milan then your not a real milan fan

      1. Exactly. And Fonseca is an idiot who is ruining this team, and ruining Leao. Instead of siding with one of our best players, these Milan “fans” are siding with the incompetent loser we have for head coach. Unbelievable.

        1. Or 2 things can be true at the same time.
Both Leao and Fonseca are lovers.
Leao doesn’t deserve to start. Fonseca isn’t benching him for sh!ts and giggles. He is benching him because leao is trash. And not starting him again shows that Leao isn’t learning his lesson.
Milan should get rid off themselves from both Fonseca and Leao.
          Both are trash.

        2. We would’ve been better off playing Samuel Dalla Bonna than Leao at the moment, and then Samuel would still be the bigger talent. You children think we haven’t seen this before. Leao will destroy his own career like Balo did. But at least Balo has heart even though he’s crazy.

      2. I think no player is bigger than the club.
Yall are rafa leao fans not ac milan fans.
And hate is such a watered down word nowadays. I’m totally indifferent about Leao. Maybe that is why I’m able to see things and him more clearly than most “fans”

          1. I see things very clearly. Unlike yourself. You don’t see anything at all. I’m surprised you managed to get into middle age with such lack of sight. Then again this society is made so people like you survive. In the old days you wouldn’t made it past 20

        1. Do you actually think that your personal attack that I wouldn’t survive past 20 is clever or funny? You have an unrealistically high opinion of yourself.

Hey, have the last word, genius. Have a good day. See you around.

        2. so Mr. AC Milan fan ; the fan fav okafor has 1 goal in 360 odd minutes in Serie a this season ; while the worst season leao has 1 goal 4 assist in 550 odd minutes ; now tell me which is good for AC Milan ?
I can also delve into deeper stats but i think this is enough.
Idc about leao as such but he at his worst is better than okafor.
Only arguement i can take is defensive duties; but let’s talk about that when the team is scoring lol

          1. Nah delve deeper. I like the odd stat now and then.

Maybe leao isn’t better than okafor anymore. Maybe okafor actually worked and improved. Who knows? I’m curious to find that out so I say let him cook.

  1. Leao has reached his ceiling.. He are catering to his ego too much, the best players sacrifice theirselves with grit and forceful attitude. Sulking n nonchalant behaviour cos you are perceived to be the most talented is not enough to be the highest paid player on the team

    1. Not to mention the amount of cash we thrown around for him, cleaning that lille-sporting mess..
Dude has little appreciation for Milan imao

    2. Yeah. Keep telling yourself that. Once Rafa leaves (who wouldn’t, the way he’s being treated?) and we finish 10th, you’ll regret it and MAYBE you will understand it, but then it will be too late. Mark my words.

It’s unbelievable how some people are clueless and short-sighed. They side with the mediocre, incompetent loser we have as the head coach, instead of siding with one of our best players. Great, just great.

Apparently Fonseca has such bad judgement, that he thinks that Okafor is better than Leao. Not to forget, he’s the one who asked for Emerson Royal.

Rafa wants out and next it will be Theo. Banter years 2.0, here we come.

Fonseca is engaged in a silly, useless war against Rafa to prove that he’s got balls. Maybe he does. Too bad he lacks a brain.

      1. All u man are saying get rid of leao, but as soon as we put him to the market I can guarantee a club will come and get for at least
90 mil minimum. Why on earth would other clubs spend so much money to buy leao if you guys think he’s not good enough. Clearly he’s milans best player. If u disagree ur just a hater

        1. Nobody is paying 90M minimum for leao.
Atm we’d be lucky to get 60M for him.

Clearly he isn’t Milan best player. That has always been Mike!

  2. What’s the big deal? – we looked the better team against Napoli for 60 mins with Okafor starting and Leao wouldnt have improved our performance in front of goal.
So he’ll be on the bench. Get over it, .he’ll get his chance, which he will probably squander, like he did against Napoli. Real Milan fans no longer care that he has enormous potential, they want to see it on the pitch and if he goes then we’ll wish him all the best and move on.

  3. Yes. Okafor have done everything that Leao could – overpacing fullbacks to lay it off, shooting either on target or in the stands, smiling and dribbling. + tracking back and quickly passing the ball that Leao doesn’t. Leao may not have done anything wrong in the last match or I’d say he’s played reasonably fine. However sitting Okafor has to be justified with something more than merely preventing Leao getting upset.

    1. Okafor is not one fourth of the player Leão is. Okafor is nothing more than a super sub. He is not starting material, and that’s been abundantly clear last season every time Okafor started (but Fonseca doesn’t do his homework and doesn’t watch tape, so, he wouldn’t know, therefore he keeps trying to reinvent the wheel.

Haters say that Rafa is lazy. Actually the lazy bum is Fonseca who doesn’t get to know his own players by doing his homework.

Leão in this difficult period when he is upset and unmotivated given the scapegoating (and yes, unfortunately Leão is not a very mature individual so his game suffers when he is upset) due to the silly war our incompetent loser of a coach is fighting against him, is still 4 times better than Okafor. Even the way things are right now, Leão still has four times more assists than Okafor (4 versus 1), despite being constantly benched by the idiotic coach.

So, Okafor does everything that Leão does, you say. Yes, sure, sure. Like, adding 30 goal participations per season, right? No? He doesn’t? No, indeed he doesn’t, unlike Leão who does (check their seasonal stats on footystats dot org).

One wonders why the experienced, professional raters from the main newspapers granted to Okafor scores of 4 to 5 against Napoli, while you think that Okafor did all that against Napoli. Did you actually watch the same game? Okafor did strictly nothing against Napoli, and most professional commentators said Fonseca should have started Leão or at least brought him in much sooner. It’s not so easy to solve it when the well-coached opponents have a 2-goal lead already and are parking the bus to protect the lead, so, no wonder Rafa coming in so late, couldn’t do much. We already didn’t have 5 starters including our currently best player, Pulisic, being sick, and the loser by the name of Paulo Fonseca also wanted to sit Rafa, for no reason whatsoever. No wonder we were toothless.

Last season, over and over, when Okafor started, he didn’t amount to anything. That same season Leão scored 18 goals and produced 12 assists.

Fonseca thinking that Okafor is better than Leão is nothing short of utterly insane. It doesn’t surprise me, because Fonseca is indeed utterly insane, and is destroying this team. I mean, how delusional can Fonseca be? He literally said, after a bad defeat at home to a title contender that then pulled ahead of us by 11 points, that he never felt as confident and that we are doing great. That’s insanity.

Einstein said, insanity is to try the same mistake over and over while hoping for a different result. And now apparently Paulo the crazy loser wants to sit Rafa against Monza, again. Monza is no Napoli so maybe we will still get a good result, and our amateur managers will stall and take no action, and we’ll continue to be stuck with Fonseca.

I will never root against Milan. But one wonders if the club wouldn’t be better off if Fonseca’s silly move backfired again and we lost to Monza. Maybe then the managers would finally panic and fire Fonseca.

  4. Rafa is coming across as another Sergio Garcia. Worlds talent weak nerves, weak mentality. A victim of a his own success. He’s a victim he should be the one in Saudi and Frank should be here.
