FootMercato: Marseille manager blocks arrival of Bakayoko – Milan’s stance

By Isak Möller -

Tiemoue Bakayoko’s future has been frequently discussed since the 2021/22 season came to an end, seeing as it was a disappointing one for him. However, finding him a new club is proving more difficult than expected.

Last summer, Milan brought in the midfielder on a two-year loan from Chelsea, with the hopes of seeing the Bakayoko we saw at San Siro in the 2018/19 season. He barely got to play this past season, though, which said a lot about his qualities.

Milan have always made it clear that they are willing to cut the loan short and the relations with Chelsea are excellent. As per FootMercato, Marseille have reached an agreement with Bakayoko and the English side over a move.

In fact, a four-year contract is in place for Bakayoko and that means it could be a permanent transfer. While the Marseille management has sanctioned the deal, it’s currently being held up by the will of the manager Igor Tudor, who is blocking it.

It remains to be seen if the manager can be convinced. Of course, he was the manager of Hellas Verona this past season and knows a lot about Bakayoko. Milan, for their part, are more than willing to let the midfielder go earlier than expected.

  1. The way Milan is performing in the market, I would keep Bakayoko for another season on loan.
He is not a Milan player so if he leaves Milan doesn’t get a dime, but will have to replace him. We still haven’t replaced Kessie.
Tonali, Bennacer, Pobega and Krunic would be the only central midfielders Milan will have in the squad. Pobega hasn’t looked comfortable playing in defensive midfield

  2. Bakayoko should go to Valencia, Gattuso’s gameplan fit him a lot.
Bakayoko can do best at 3-midfield formation as a DM, and 2 other mid go futher forward to help build up play.
