Footmercato: Real Madrid wanted Tonali before signing alternative for over €100m

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of Sandro Tonali had a meeting with Real Madrid to discuss interest from the European champions, according to a report.

Tonali is under contract until 30 June 2026 but everything suggests that his deal will be extended after a wonderful 2021-22 season in which he was the leader of the midfield as Milan captured the Scudetto for the first time in 11 years.

However, his excellent form seems to have attracted the interest of some of Europe’s elite clubs, as Santo Aouna of FootMercato reports on Twitter that Real Madrid had him on their list of targets for the midfield department.

Before completing the Aurélien Tchouaméni operation for more than €100m (via The Athletic) Real Madrid were interested in Sandro Tonali. His agent had a meeting back in May with the leadership of Los Blancos to listen to their pitch, but in the end they opted to sign the Monaco man and Tonali seems likely to renew.
