Forbes: Pioli’s Milan cycle coming to an end – Zlatan has a successor in mind

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are beginning to think about who might replace Stefano Pioli should he leave, and a report has claimed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is an advocate of Antonio Conte’s arrival.

According to what is being reported by Forbes, the defeat to Atalanta in the Coppa Italia is one that means another trophy opportunity has fallen by the wayside, and Pioli will no doubt be aware that this is ‘likely to be his last season at the club’.

Despite being liked by club owners RedBird Capital, the report states that Pioli ‘has perhaps outstayed his welcome’ given the inconsistency in results. The comfortable win at Empoli last weekend was followed by a far more damaging defeat against Atalanta, which symbolises 2023-24 so far.

Pioli ‘doesn’t seem able to find answers to Milan’s problems’ at the moment, and the former Lazio and Inter boss seems ‘without ideas or a plan B should A not be working’, which means a departure in the summer is more likely than unlikely.

Forbes mentions the suggestions Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to bring in Antonio Conte as boss from next season, given that he has a history of winning and has been without a club since leaving Tottenham last season.

Conte ‘would no doubt demand a significant transfer budget’ and his style might not be as easy-going as Pioli’s in terms of how he addresses the media and the requests he makes of the management.

The feeling is that Milan have ‘enormous potential to do much more’ considering the talent available in the squad, but new ideas are needed and that starts with the coach.

  1. Why not go for Pep Guardiola? He has 1yr left on his contract with Man City and he doesn’t seem interested in continuing there.

He said himself that he has done everything he could do at Man City which sounds like he’s ready for a new challenge. Milan would be perfect for Pep.

    1. Guardiola same in terms of demands but he’s style of play wint fit in italian style. I believe Ibra particularly is the only one came tame Conti . Let’s see

Sumerized perfectly why Pioli should be fired. This team has way more talent than what they show on the pitch and that falls on the poor job done by the coach.
No one is denying the work he did the first 3 years at the club, but the last year or so he has been holding the club back because of his limitations as a coach. Other coaches have figured him out and he can’t adjust and readjust.
The midfield has been outplayed on a regular this and last season. It didn’t matter if it was Tonali and Bennacer or the new midfielders this season. The midfield hasn’t played well especially defensively.
Kessie’s ability to control the midfield by himself masked a lot of Pioli limitations.

      Boom.

      1. Yep Kessie was a really good fit for Milan and if he would have stayed no doubt he’d be a top player. Too bad he didn’t get good advice from his agent.

  3. Ibra is rough in nature. Ibra being part of the technical staff. More players will repeal him. Ibra was not rough at his fellow players because he was also a player. Now he’s part of the staff.

  4. Milan would really need to commit to Conte, his style, his salary and more importantly to his transfer requests.

It is highly likely that his football will be rough on the eye, because I remember him with Inter, Juve and Italy, and it was tough to watch more often than not.

BUT. His mentality and drive is everything, and lets be honest, we have a lot of players with high ceilings that need this kind of mentality and drive to play at the next level.

One would argue that Conte would disrupt the unity and chemistry at Milan and he isn’t particularly fond of developing youth since he’s mad about winning. But this team is young, with some veterans of course and all could benefit from his approach.

My cup of tea would be Motta for what he’s been able to achieve with Bologna. But he is clearly a more risky option than Conte. Doubt Milan goes for him.

    Exciting Summer 2.0 coming up.

  5. Arguably the best thing about Conte is that more often than not, granted he clashes with the management more than the average coach, he leaves a club better than how he found it, he left Juve and see what they did, he left inter and look at how they are, I believe Tottenham are not too shabby compared to last season, considering they sold the most prolific striker Europe as things are today…a combination of Conte’s passion and mentality and Ibras confidence and tenacity, would make Milan the most mentally strong team in Italian football, which the squad desperately needs

  6. Conte to Milan is comical UNLESS we really believe Redbird will ditch “moneyball” and all of a sudden open up the transfer budget and spend 100M-150M plus (without selling ours stars) to buy players Conte wants AND give Conte a salary of 6-9M/season…..

Good luck with that ace gents.
