There has been a lot of recent talk about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s role at AC Milan and his absence, one which should continue for tomorrow night’s game against Venezia.
In an editorial for Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), the journalist Franco Ordine spoke about the absence of the Swede including the controversy that it has generated and how far his powers truly extent.
He begins by confirming that Ibrahimovic ‘left Milan, Italy and AC Milan almost two weeks ago for a commitment in Canada taken up prior to the contract with RedBird (according to the official version)’.
Referencing the fact that Zvonimir Boban questioned what Zlatan’s role at Milan is, Ordine remarks that ‘Ibrahimovic is the one who showed up at the press conference alone to announce the choice of Fonseca and the renunciation of Conte’.
Not only that, but he ‘is the one who gradually presented all the new signings and the one who responded in kind to the coach when he marked the power of the club by letting it be known that ‘the market closes when I say so’.
Ibrahimovic is still the one who ‘after the Parma disaster ran to Milanello with Cardinale (who remained to discuss with the coach) and wanted to enter, always alone, into the dressing room to talk to the players’.
Effectively, these are incidents that show Ibrahimovic ‘has full powers in the technical area’ and that is why ‘his absence has made a lot of noise’. The journalist admits that it would have been useful to have him at the Olimpico against Lazio and his presence would have been useful to protect the new coach Fonseca from the ‘cosmic pessimism’ that surrounds him.
With Venezia, Liverpool and Inter to come, ‘the presence (coincidence or conscious gesture) both at the Olimpico and on Saturday against Venezia is that of Gerry Cardinale, the owner increasingly aware of what works and what doesn’t work in the life of the club’.
Full powers and being the “PR guy” are two completely different things. Just because Z wants to be there to present new signings/coaches doesn’t mean he has any power over any decision made in the background.
It also makes him the easy sacrifice if things truly go south. My expectation for if this side struggle once again to qualify for the CL, or worse, is a cleanout at the top. Goodbye Furlani and even Moncada, and bring in another head scout and a proper director of sport. Bring me Sartori from Bologna (the initial architect of Atalanta), or his replacement at Atalanta Tony D’Amico, or Sean Sogliano (Verona), or Riccardo Bigon (original architect of ADL’s Napoli), or Igli Tare, or Gianluca Petrachi.
We do need actual professionals for each job. It’s not a f’ng Serie C club with amateurs in charge, now is it? It’s the 2nd most successful club in Europe. Act accordingly, FFS. Scaroni should be the first to go. Why? Everything he says damages the club and he doesn’t add anything positive.
Ordine is a clown trying to explain the unexplainable.

Z is just a stand up guy for the owner. Z was a great player and that is that, but his current role degrades his passed glorious career in the world of elite football.
Propaganda from Ordine does not sit well with the diehard Rosso Neri.
Boban is a legion the Rosso Neri game and for Ordine to explain rubbish statements to Boban is embarrassing to say the lease.
Not knowing the difference between lease and least is what’s really embarrassing.
And this time Boban is nothing more than a butthurt whinner. You got fired, get over it.
