Furlani comments on ‘disgusting’ racism incidents: “We will do something tomorrow”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has spoken briefly on the ‘disgusting’ incidents of racism that continue to happen in Italian stadiums.

Shortly after Milan went 1-0 up during their win over Udinese last Saturday, Maignan alerted his team-mates and the referee to the abuse he was getting from fans behind the goal.

It seems a warning had already been broadcast over the PA system, leaving the Rossoneri players with no choice but to go off the pitch. The game continued with Milan winning in the last minute, and Udinese have since given life bans to five people.

Furlani arrived at the Lega Calcio headquarters for today’s meeting and he was asked about the Maignan incident, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“What happens in the stadiums, in society, is truly disgusting. We will do something tomorrow,” he said, in reference to the game against Bologna.

He was also asked about Jannik Sinner’s achievements at the Australian Open as he beat Novak Djokovic today, marking his first defeat since 2018 in the competition.

It was an interesting game because it was a battle between two players who are boyhood fans of Milan, with the fourth-seeded Italian coming out on top.

“Well done Sinner. He’s a Milanista!” Furlani said.
