Furlani claims questioning Pioli ‘is not right’ and expresses concern over Growth Decree ruling

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani appeared in front of the cameras before the final game of 2023 and he expressed his disappointment at the Growth Decree being scrapped.

It is very much a must-win game for Milan, not just because they want to close out the calendar year in the best possible way but also because of the difficult moment the team have found themselves in.

With Inter, Napoli and Bologna having dropped points in the round already, and with Juventus and Roma playing each other, it is a chance for the Rossoneri to gain points on some of the teams around them.

However, Sassuolo have won their last three games in Serie A against Milan at San Siro and are unbeaten in four, making them a real bogey team.

Furlani spoke during an interview with Sky Italia before the match, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

The Growth Decree is being abolished…

“I experienced it badly, it is a sad decision for Italian football. We are weaker and poorer, less competitive. Football should be seen as a sector of the economy, for years in Europe we have been leaders, now with these rules and laws we cannot be. I thank Abodi who tried to push to discuss these difficulties, unfortunately it didn’t go in the right direction.”

What will Milan do in January?

“It’s not just us as Milan but everyone. Unfortunately, from January 1st we will have to take this law into consideration. We will be ready to seize opportunities, we were relatively active in the last window, if we have opportunities in this one too.

“All of us as CEOs and presidents of Serie A we would need regulations around football to make it competitive at a European level. We need to manage the problem that exists in Italy, they changed a law overnight.”

How do you reflect on Milan’s recent difficulties?

“It hasn’t gone as we hoped in recent weeks, but today we turn the page with a very important match. We are united, questioning the coach is not right. We have to give him a competitive squad, unfortunately we have some obstacles.”

  1. So on the bigger picture to all this seria a will suffer from this decision made by the Italian government.

It really does fell like if it’s not one thing getting in the way for italian football to come back it’s another it’s as if someone is planning it behind the scenes?

Also the commentary on the juve rome match seems to be jumping for joy on this news on tnt sports regarding italia football financial difficulties.

    1. Nobody needs a growth decree. No other country does it and they’re all fine. There’s only 1 epl and trying to be them isn’t going to happen with a growth decree. It’s going to take a lot more. Glad it’s gone.

  2. His speech indicates that he is the first Problem of the team along with pioli because he refuses Accountabllity and Responsibilities.

  3. Why do I feel Furlani is the biggest problem of Milan right now? He doesn’t convey confidence that Milan has a serious dream to get back to top European football and the plans to get there.
