Furlani ‘very proud’ of UCL run after ‘combining sporting results and financial discipline’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has highlighted the positives of the run to the Champions League semi-finals, urging the fans to look at how far the team have come.

Milan’s journey to the final four of Europe’s top club competition was a memorable one as they beat Spurs and Napoli in the knockout stages before eventually crashing out to city rivals Inter, who will contest the final next month in Istanbul.

The issue is that the Champions League path seems to have come at the expense of league form, with the Rossoneri currently sat in fifth place in the table and hoping for some favours from elsewhere if they are to sneak into fourth.

After the Rossoneri’s elimination in the Champions League semi-final and in view of a very important Serie A finale, Milan’s Chief Executive Officer Furlani wanted to send a message to Milan fans,

“Leaving the recent disappointment behind us, I want to strongly underline that the Champions League path – which has brought us back among the best teams in European football – is a significant goal, achieved thanks to the commitment and dedication of everyone at the club, who makes everyone very proud,” he said (via MilanNews).

“It is also further confirmation that, by combining sporting results and financial discipline, we are in the right direction. Now other challenges await us, to obtain qualification for the Champons League and keep us at the top in Europe.

“These are challenges that see us determined to face them with unity, energy and team spirit, supporting the coach, the team and the whole sporting area, together with our wonderful fans. As far as I’m concerned, I repeat to myself every day: we are Milan!”

  1. Maldini had 50mil to spend and did a questionable job of it as Milan had no real reinforcements to improve the team. So yea, no depth for two competitions. Regular starters are burnt out. Is this what we call financial discipline?

    1. they want us to support and spend record amounts yet did nothing to make it count when we had a chance. They put the entire project at risk

    2. You need at least 200mil for reinforcements. with what he had, he could only bring in two average players

  2. It’s not the fact we lost in the CL semi that bothers me it’s the way we lost – playing like a bunch of clueless schoolboys over two legs. The only one who can hold his head high after that s**tshow is Mike.

  3. ‘Financial discipline”- translation = we have no $$ again this summer lol. Again these owners are not concerned about wining titles only profit. They are fine risking CL qualification rather than spend a reasonable amount to strengthen the squad.
