Furlani comments on Zlatan’s role, Cardinale’s words and takeover talk: “Nothing true”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has said there is ‘nothing true’ regarding the rumours that the club could soon be bought, while he explained what it is like to work with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Milan host Slavia Praha in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie at San Siro tonight, hoping to get the bulk of the work done at home just as they did in the play-off round against Rennes.

The game takes place amid a backdrop of uncertainty at multiple levels, however. Firstly, there are rumours circulating suggesting that Milan could welcome new investment from the Middle East, which could change things from a corporate perspective.

Then, head coach Stefano Pioli continues to face pressure from fans and the media with Franco Ordine even claiming that his time at Milan is ‘on the final lap’. Winning the Europa League in Dublin might just force a reflection.

CEO Giorgio Furlani went in front of the cameras just before kick-off, speaking to Sky, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

Is the Europa League a target for Milan?

“It’s a good moment for us, we’re recovering the injured players, so with a full team we can compete in Italy and Europe. We’ll do our best, starting tonight.”

What do you think of Cardinale’s words about the possibility of summer changes?

“I was with him in London. I invite everyone to see the interview in English: he spoke about innovation, about looking ahead, about growth, they are all beautiful things. We work to improve ourselves.”

There are rumours about potential new investors…

“We work to bring results for Milan. It’s all speculation, there is nothing true.”

What is it like having Ibrahimovic back?

“Zlatan and I work as a team. We work in complete harmony. Ibra brings a lot of skills. He was a champion on the pitch and he will be a champion off the pitch too. I’m lucky to work with him.”
