Gazidis reveals why Ibrahimovic is ‘the exception to all the rules’ as he hints at new deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has hinted that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could remain beyond the end of the season and sign a new deal.

Many had doubts about how the Swede would cope with playing in one of Europe’s big league at the age of 38 having just come off the back of a stint in the MLS, which the striker himself declared was almost a rehab stint following his ligament injury at Manchester United.

The results have been incredibly impressive. Ibrahimovic has scored 14 times in 10 starts in Serie A this season meaning he is averaging a goal every 62 minutes, and he is on course for probably the best league season of his life.

Gazidis spoke to Peppe Di Stefano of Sky about his vision for Milan moving forward and what role Zlatan Ibrahimovic might play in that, with his words transcribed by MilanNews.

“Ibrahimovic is the exception to all the rules. Ibra is special, he has personal and technical qualities. It is also incredible on a physical level. Is fantastic.”

Is there a possibility that Ibra will stay for another year?

“Absolutely anything is possible. The reality is that this challenge, for Ibra, is the biggest, most beautiful and romantic challenge of his career. He feels emotion for this club. He could retire tomorrow, he would have done everything. But this challenge is special: lead a group towards new frontiers. And I think he feels this challenge.”

Could Ibra renew his deal?

“Why not…”
