GdS: Camarda waits for Pioli’s call – how the last month has been since his debut

By Oliver Fisher -

Francesco Camarda went viral when he made his debut against Fiorentina. Now, just over a month has passed and AC Milan have found themselves in a position where they probably need him again.

La Gazzetta dello Sport recall that it is a month and a handful of days since Camarda’s debut in the first team, a debut that rewrote a record in Italian football as he became the youngest ever to do so at 15 years, 8 months, 15 days.

Luka Jovic is not doing too well after an ankle blow in the draw against Salernitana (even if today he should return to training with the group), while Noah Okafor is out for a few weeks yet with a muscle problem.

In recent days Camarda has been training with the senior team again, partly because Pioli needs role players for certain types of exercises, and partly because the conditions of the Rossoneri attack are rather precarious and therefore everyone is needed.

That even means a 15-year-old who is living a dream but hasn’t lost sight of things under the chants of San Siro and the collective enthusiasm for his debut. Only one thing bounces back from Milanello in unison: Camarda has remained himself and this month has passed normally.

His coaches helped to keep his feet on the ground by coaches (Pioli and Abate), while his team-mates (the adults and kids) and his family also played their part. He did the rest himself, thanks to his serious and committed attitude.

Furthermore, Camarda – after his debut with Fiorentina on 25 November and the other minutes lined up on 2 December with Frosinone – returned to training mostly with the Primavera. He played in the Youth League, he played in the league and not even always as a starter, like in his last outing with Verona before Christmas.

This is all in the utmost serenity because Francesco knows well that playing in front of over 70,000 at San Siro is not a realistic weekly goal at present. In short, he carries on as if nothing had happened, even if it is difficult not to think about what has happened in the last few weeks.

Today and tomorrow he will train again with the first team and then it will be up to Pioli to decide. Without Jovic it is a certain call-up, but this could also happen even with the presence of the Serbian because the Primavera’s next match is on January 6.
