GdS: Chukwueze in the cold as Pioli steers clear of Monza mistake

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are scheduled to face Empoli on Sunday afternoon and given the right schedule, Stefano Pioli is expected to make some changes to the starting XI. However, he has learned from the mistake made against Monza.

Milan bounced back with an important win against Lazio last weekend and will be aiming to put pressure on Juventus again, now just one point behind. Some changes are expected to the XI, as per Gazzetta dello Sport, with Noah Okafor replacing the suspended Rafael Leao and more.

As opposed to the game against Monza, when Pioli changed all of the forwards, he looks set to keep Christian Pulisic on the right flank for the balance. Samuel Chukwueze is eager to prove his qualities but he has not impressed and Milan are not in a position to take risks.

The post-match headlines, in the event of a defeat, would be brutal for Pioli in case he does decide to change all of the forwards. This is not likely to happen, therefore, and Pulisic is also beaming after his goal against Slavia Praha (although it was a tap-in).

Having said that, it is likely that we will see Chukwueze off the bench as Milan need to start seeing some return on their investment.

  1. Moneyball Moncada’s biggest signing.

Almost near CDK costs, but a far worse player so far

He’s making over 4m per year too and his value has now fallen under 25m too. On the other hand, CDK is making ~2.2m and his value has now skyrocketed.

CDK is a guaranteed profit for Atalanta, Chuk is a guaranteed loss right now for Milan. Adding salary in, it’s even worse

Our midfield used to be: Tonali, Kessie, Bennacer and Krunic.

    Now?: Bennancer, Adli, Reijnders, Musah

WOW. Destruction of the championship team replaced with low budget players who don’t perform.

Imagine what Moneyball Moncada would do if Leao, Theo and Giroud left next year ……… use our midfield as a reference.

    All hail moneyball moncada

      1. We also have 8 more points than we did at the same stage last season, but numbers don’t matter to the prejudiced.

    1. Meez, now what year did ACM win the Scudetto and how did they do last year? You can’t live in the past. Inter is having a record year. I do believe RLC is a midfielder. So, from the sale of Tonnali ACM got 3 starters. It’s unlikely that the points ACM had when they won would beat Inter this year. Also, Tonnali is suspended and wouldn’t even be playing. Reality check.

    2. CDK price tag will be the lowest of his career if he didn’t make a move to Atalanta, Pioli simply can’t handle talented player. If Chuk is a flaw this season and management loan him next season, he will be skyrocket also in another club

  2. You cannot fault Pioli, man is fighting for his life; keeping it simple with 1 change in attacking midfield.
RLC has always been a ghost in midfield(only hoping to score); leaving Reijnders & Adli without passing options and making the shape look more like 4-0-4.
An attacking 4-4-2/4-2-4 having Okafor X Jovic (both have good movement in the box) upfront with pulisic & chukweze on the wings seems preferable than having a ghost midfielder but pioli knows best (has a job to lose)

  3. People seem to forget that under a good manager, Chuk used to pocket teams like Madrid. Perhaps, just perhaps, if we had a decent coach who wasn’t addicted to dry defensive football and could actually man manage players properly, we could actually see our players reach their potential for once.
