GdS: Daniel Maldini in the stands for Spezia-Milan – the plan for his future

By Oliver Fisher -

Daniel Maldini will not be on the field during tomorrow’s game between Spezia and AC Milan, but the management do have clear ideas for his future.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes, the attacking midfielder will not be on the field tomorrow when his loan club play his parent club due to a muscle problem that has complicated the last few weeks for him, but he will be there in the stands.

The paper recalls the interview that he gave with them back in August after he decided to leave Milan in favour of a loan move to the Ligurian club.

“It was the right time. Above all, I was sad to leave a beautiful, young, enthusiastic group. And then all the people who work at Milanello and who make you feel at home every day. But in La Spezia I was very well received, both in the dressing room and in the city,” he said.

He went there to find playing time and opportunities to grow, and they have come. He has 3 goals in 20 appearances across the league and Coppa Italia, even if some injuries slowed down the path in terms of continuity.

His most significant goal was potentially the one he scored at San Siro to level the game for Spezia against Milan under the eyes of father Paolo.

Daniel is a lifelong Milan fan and decided not to celebrate as a sign of respect for the club and the fans, despite the shouts and hugs of his team-mates.

It is not his only goal against a Milanese side this season though, and the other he was happy to celebrate. Back on 10 March against Inter, Maldini scored his second goal in the league to earn a 1-1 draw against the Nerazzurri.

He will complete his year on loan at Semplici’s team who have to earn survival in the last four games. Then, in the summer, new reflections will be made: he will either return to Milan and stay or be sent on a new loan.

  1. I’ve taken a particular interest in Daniel since he scored against Inter.

He is a better player than CDK both now and also based on the potential of what he could be.

  2. I think Daniel needs one more season on loan. If Spezia go down, then maybe he could go to Verona, Empoli or similar.

  3. If Daniel Maldini was given the chances that were given to Diaz and CDK, he would for sure flourish and excel by now.
I wish Pioli start giving chances to youngsters.
