GdS: Probable XIs for Monza vs. Milan – one change as Kalulu wins battle

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Monza in the Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi this evening and Stefano Pioli is expected to field the usual starters. There will be one change, however, due to the injury of Davide Calabria.

The Rossoneri captain was replaced by Alessandro Florenzi for the game against Barcelona but the veteran didn’t exactly impress. Therefore, as reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Pierre Kalulu will get the chance instead.

Other than that, though, there will be no changes compared to the game against Barcelona. The likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Yunus Musah and Noah Okafor are now also at Pioli’s disposal and we will likely see them in the second half.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Kalulu, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

Probable Monza XI (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Izzo, Mari, Caldirola; Cuirria, Gagliardini, Pessina, Augusto; Carvalho, Caprari; Maric.

The game is scheduled for 21:00 and it’s the first edition of Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi, who passed away recently. Canale 5 will be showing the game in Italy and thus it should be rather easy to find a stream for it.

  1. 90% of Monza’s starting XI consist of Italian players. What a beauty. Then you look over at Milan’s line-up. Scary thing.

    1. Far from 90%… dont make up things as you like.

      Di Gregorio – Italia
      Izzo – Italia
      Pablo Mari – Spain
      Caldirola – Italia
      Ciurria – Italia
      Gagliardini – Italia
      Pessina – Italia
      Carlos Augusto – Brazil
      Mota Carvalho – Portuguese
      Caprari- Italia
      Maric – Bosnia

      It’s 7/11, only 63%. Don’t exaggerate things.

      1. Still 7 players on the field are Italian! As an Italian i want to see Italians do well and AC Milan has now become a team of NON ITALIANS…

    2. Tell that to Real Madrid Manchester city. Liverpool. Inter Milan, juventus. Who has dominated football for years. Milan tried Italian players, it’s either they weren’t as good as the paper claim or they leave as soon as they see a big offer.

      1. Exactly, I’m even Italian, and what the national football team of Italy have shown lately, except for the Euro 2020, reflects what Italian players are going through. Two world cups missed says a lot. First, Seria A needs a full revival with talents from everywhere. So Italians can learn to compete again. If they want the position, they should fight for it. Not because they are Italians, they should get it. Also look at Bayern Munich, few players are Germans as the team used to be because German national team isn’t doing great either as Italian team either

    3. Was just thinking the same thing – I am glad we have addressed problem areas in our squad like the right wing but absolutely no Italians in this lineup is dreadful…ridiculous!

  2. Looks a good line up ..very confident we will win the match probably 4 -1 …only concern for me is the defence seems to be our main issue to get sorted .
I think we have a squad to do really well this season ,however it will take time as we have virtually a new team ,but in my opinion and experience a better one .

  3. That dumb coach Pioli must fired immediately. kick him out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
Noooo, we don’t need him, Krunich’s level doesn’t satisfy Milan’s requirements

    1. Yes. Firing the head coach 2-3 weeks before the new season sound like an awesome idea. Bonus points for sacking Maldini earlier this summer for wanting to replace the coach too. 🙂

      1. Hey hey Maldini was right about getting a defender after great defending in our Scudetto run..maybe he’s right again about Pioli this time around 😁

        1. Those sacking as “panic button” decisions when everything else has failed. No one fires their coach just before the season. No one.

  4. Monza has excellent ball retention and possession capabilities far better than ours. We are going to suffer with having the ball as we did with Barca for this one. If there was a test going the other way it has to be this one ie not low block but aggressive meaningful possession. I’m assuming here they’re going to play like last year though. Maybe we should try out our counter attacks 🙂
