AC Milan have already begun their pursuit of a replacement for Sergio Conceicao and according to a report, Cesc Fabregas is the favourite as things stand. There are also a couple of Italian names on the Rossoneri’s list.
As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), these are decisive days for Sergio Conceicao and his future with Milan. The top-four dream is already out of reach, at least according to some, and a tough game against Lazio awaits tomorrow.
Only with qualifying for the big competition will the Portuguese international stand a chance of staying at the club, so it’s pretty obvious in which direction the Rossoneri are heading. At least this time, as opposed to Stefano Pioli’s exit, there is plenty of time to evaluate profiles.
Furthermore, with a sporting director needed as well, it’s clear that having more time to make the final decision will benefit Milan greatly. Conceicao’s departure hasn’t been confirmed, it should be noted, but the fact that the top four is so unrealistic now has paradoxically helped the Rossoneri in a way.
Fabregas is the favourite
Cesc Fabregas, with all of his experience at the highest level of the game, could get everyone in line. Since November 2023, he has been in charge of Como and led the team to promotion to Serie A in the summer of 2024.
This season, at the helm of the team since the beginning, he’s in 13th place and celebrated the win against Napoli last Sunday. He has a recognisable and enjoyable game, pleasant but also effective. A young coach who has attracted the attention of the big clubs, and Milan are obviously among them.
Indeed, as the pink newspaper continues, he’s the favourite to replace Conceicao and again, the fact that the managerial switch is more or less decided will allow them to move ahead of the competition.
The alternatives
Of course, there are a few more names on Milan’s list. Maurizio Sarri is one of them, having already been linked with the club last summer and then after Fonseca’s sacking. He had his last experience at Lazio, which ended with his resignation in March 2024. He’s desperate to return to the bench and views the Rossoneri project with optimism.
Roberto De Zerbi is another candidate who was linked with Milan already a year ago. He has coached in Serie A, won with Shakhtar Donetsk before trying the Premier League experience with Brighton. Now at Marseille, returning to Italy to the club he loves is an idea that pleases…

Cesc? Oh come on, look what Motta is doing in Juve. Even Motta has way more experience than Cesc yet he can’t do sh1t with Juve and its squad.
Cesc? They’re 13th. He has proven nothing.
Motta is 8 points behind 1st place. If inter and Napoli draw today he’d be 6 points behind 1st place with 11 games left into the season . He’d be basically back in the scudetto race. I wouldn’t call that not doing sh!t.
Then why are they sacking him in the summer? With the team they have they should have still be in the Coppa Italia (beaten by EMPOLI!) and UCL. They should have won way more matches than they have.
Ask Juve-directors or fans if they are happy with how Juve are doing.
It’s his first year at a big club with a team that changed more than half of their squad and a lot of injuries. He lost his best defender and captain plus Vlahovic has been more injured than playing.
He went from coaching a team that played once a week in only 1 competition to the biggest club in Italy playing in 4 competitions every 3 days. It’s an adjustment. No one expected them to win in his 1st season.
Directors and fans have no issues with Motta, the spoiled players do.
What did people expect from him, to win the treble? With 12 games left they are still in the scudetto race.
Napoli with the “great” Conte is a failure if they don’t win the scudetto, not Motta.
Until Milan hires a new SD there will be no discussion about a coach for next season.
This is just a continuation of Italian media hate campaign against the club and coach, because of Calabria sale (their mole in the club). They are no longer getting anything from the club, other than official statements, and that us infuriating them.
The result will be worse than motta at Juventus
Gasperini is the answer but only if he’s giving more freedom to deal with the players
Take Gasperini I don’t know if our management are blind, remplace Concecao now go weak the team don’t be fool please let’s him until the summer and then sack him
Just like Man United we are trying to find an indirect band aid instead of fixing the root problem.
Unfortunately that problem is the one the management refuse to solve. Because they are the problem.
Moncada wont sack himself or return to being just a scout. Cardinale won’t sell the team. He’d rather keep sacking directors or coaches, and continue his cost cutting measures instead of building a team with a strong Italian core + top class foreigners.
We don’t even have a captain to build around. The armband gets thrown around but now that it’s settled on Maignan we read he might get sold anyway. It’s a long rebuild ahead..
BTW even with limited form we should stick with Santi gimenez as striker for a few seasons. Enough random loan journeymen like Joao Felix we can’t become Jorge Mendes’ b!tch
Cesc or del zerbi but first of all let’s give conceicao a chance.
Can Gasperini handle a huge club?
Can De Zerbi handle a huge club?
Can Alonso handle a huge club?
Can Klopp be willing to start coaching again instead of doing the Red Bull shit?
Fabregas shouldn’t be a target at all right now.
Whoever is going to be our new coach must NOT be the decision of either Ibrahimović or Moncada.
Sometimes we have to give the chance for someone like Cesc to manage a big club. For example,Kompany’s come from Burnley that relegated from the EPL and somehow he manage to lead Bayern to the top of the league. We didn’t know how the thing will go on but I’m very hope Milan will become stronger next season.Sorry for my English…😁😅
The best solution is hire paratici & conte but Milan must have heavy budget for their request. The alternative it’s Gasperini. Buy lots of raw diamond from somewhere. But with Gasperini, Milan must have more patient. Follow the process. The rest is we can see from Atalanta now…
Unless we can get Klopp or Ancelotti I see no reason to let go of Sergio. He is as good as any of the names mentioned in this article.
If we get a new coach it need to be a larger-than-life type guy who ca transform a football club on his own and players will follow and respect just because if his name
Agree with most of the sentiment here. Milan is no Como – it’s a pressure cooker. Yea, sure, maybe Fabregas can click with the players at Milan given his young mind and charismatic disposition. And maybe he could put the players in their best positions to succeed. Maybe it’s the second coming of Sacchi.
But maybe playing with heavy expectations takes a toll and takes away that freedom and flexibility he is currently coaching with at Como. Clubs like Milan (not currently of course) are driven by needing to win always and there isn’t much time to experiment or allowance to tinker and make mistakes. Gotta hit the ground running.
