Rafael Leao’s renewal has been in the spotlight for several months and work is underway to reach an agreement. However, it’s not an easy task for AC Milan as the winger has requested a high salary.
Leao missed out on the game against Napoli due to suspension and fittingly, Milan’s 22-game unbeaten run came to an end. The renewal has thus ended up on the front pages of the newspapers again, with several factors to consider.
As reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Leao currently earns €1.5m plus bonuses per year and his request to renew is €7m. Then there is also the €16-19m compensation that he owes to Sporting, which Milan must help out with.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are still lurking and are expected to make a new attempt in the January window. They are willing to give Leao a salary of €8-9m per year and it remains to be seen what the outcome of the saga will be.
