Olivier Giroud was once again the match-winner for AC Milan during the 1-0 victory over Torino on Friday night, continuing a trend of being decisive in big moments.
La Gazzetta dello Sport write how at 36, Giroud is the oldest player involved in more than 10 goals this season in the five major European leagues (7 goals and 4 assists). He is so far the top scorer for the Rossoneri as he scored another winner against Torino after he decided the same game last season back on 26 October 2021.
A little over a year ago, on 5 February 2022, Giroud scored two goals in the derby against Inter which proved to be a huge turning point in the Sucdetto push. On March 6 of the same year, the Frenchman scored the winner against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
He also netted the equaliser at the Olimpico against Lazio on 24 April, keeping hope alive before Tonali’s late winner. Then in the final game of the season he netted a brace against Sassuolo to thwart Inter’s dreams of overtaking in the last game of the season.
This season he has also been decisive, scoring again in the 3-2 derby win in September and against Spezia in November. He also scored against Napoli earlier in the campaign, even though the game was lost 2-1, and he scored the winner against Sampdoria 20 minutes from the end.
Giroud came back from the World Cup understandably fatigued as he gave everything in Qatar, scoring 4 goals in 7 games and becoming the all-time top scorer for his country. The defeat in the final against Argentina – in which he came off in the 41st minute – had an impact.
Before the header against the Granata on Friday, the only other time Giroud scored in the new year was in the 5-2 mauling by Sassuolo a couple of weeks ago. Now though he is back to scoring and has Spurs in his sights.
If there was anyone in place of him that player would score more goals. That is how “decisive” Giroud is. He misses too many chances and has way too many wrong passes and useless header pass attempts. Do you know how many times did he score 2 games in a row in Serie A in 1.5 years? Once. Last season he had 6 goals in first 20 matches, when he was decisive for the title. He wasn’t in bad form recently, that is his good form…
Anyone like Piatek or Andre Silva? 😀
LOL. Still by far the best striker we’ve had since Zlatan left (if not counting Zlatan on his return). 🙂
Giroud is a class act …he is technically brilliant ..
He is the best centre forward anywhere ..Yes he needs service but if he gets that he will deliver ..He knows exactly where to be at the right time ,this is a skill and not down to luck ..He scored against Torino ,with a typical Giroud header ,,and was a little unlucky with an effort just before that the goalkeeper made a fine save .Also we won the scuddeto last season again much of this down to the man Olivier Giroud..He is class plenty more goals to come from him ..He is our centre forward! we can still finish in the top four this season …So all is not lost ..I believe with Rafeol leao up front with Olivier Giroud, we will beat Tottenham in the champions leauge …The form of Theo Hernandez and salemakers also at the moment looks good …So please stay optimistic and hopeful all AC Milan fans …
