GdS: Giroud equals Balotelli plus his starts at Montpellier and Arsenal – the next challenge

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud has become a San Siro specialist of sorts, scoring four goals in the league already in front of the home fans to announce himself as a new Milan player.

Giroud arrive from Chelsea in the summer and has scored all of his goals in home league matches at San Siro, with the most recent being last night’s winner against Torino in what was a difficult game that needed a moment of anticipation from the Frenchman.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) talks about Giroud’s impact since he arrived at Milan, remarking that he has equaled his best career start in the league with Montpellier in the 2011-12 season and with Arsenal in the 2013-14 Premier League in terms of goals at this stage.

He scored with a sweeping shot against Cagliari, from the penalty spot in the same game, with his head against Verona and now with an instinctive tap-in against Torino. Only Mario Balotelli in 2013 has been able to score in each of his first three appearances at San Siro as Giroud has.

Now the challenge is for the 35-year-old to start scoring goals away from home, perhaps beginning on Sunday against Roma in what is a huge early-season contest.
