Olivier Giroud was the big hero for France last night as they advanced to the semi-finals of the World Cup. The AC Milan striker scored the winner and thus continued his very good form.
France took the lead through Aurélien Tchouameni in the first half but then conceded a penalty at the start of the second half. Giroud then stepped up and restored the lead with a nice header; a classic Giroud goal.
Today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport heaps praise on the Frenchman, stating that it’s ‘difficult to explain his greatness’. At the age of 36, Giroud has won nearly everything and he continues to make a difference on the pitch.
He always does well in the big games and knows how to step up when it matters, now on four goals along with Leo Messi. Only one player has more goals, Kylian Mbappe, and that says a lot about Giroud’s success.
Defenders struggle to handle him and that’s something to think about considering he’s often criticised for being too ‘immovable’. Milan fans are delighted to see him shining and the only worry is a potential injury, but thus far his condition has been excellent.
We are blessed to have him. And top it all he’s a very serious professional.
