Olivier Giroud continues to be decisive for AC Milan which has very much been the trend for the striker since his arrival in the summer of 2021.
Giroud followed up a night with four goal contributions against Red Bull Salzburg (two goals, two assists) – which fired Milan into the last 16 of the Champions League – with a scissor kick in the dying embers against Spezia on Saturday to turn one point into three.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have taken a look at Giroud’s numbers since joining Milan, starting with his goal scoring record of 23 in 56 appearances overall, with 43 of those being starts. He is on 9 this season already with 5 having come in Serie A and 4 in the Champions League.
That means the 36-year-old is averaging a goal every 158 minutes since joining across all competitions, which is certainly not a bad return considering the €1m transfer fee paid to Chelsea.
The paper mentions how Giroud’s goals directly earned 18 points in the 2021-22 Scudetto win (through him scoring the winner or earning a draw). His fee means it works out at a cost of €55.5k per goal in Serie A, or €43.5k when counting all competitions.
