Francesco Camarda is experiencing his first preseason with the senior side out in the United States, and it is something that he might well have to get used to.
La Gazzetta dello Sport talk about two scenes from Milan’s American tour. The first: Camarda at the end of the match against Real in Chicago started ruffling Samuel Chukwueze’s hair, as a sort of congratulations for the fact he was the match-winner.
The second came in a match at the end of training in New Jersey over the weekend. The game was yellows against blues, and the yellows build a good move on the left with Camarda hammering the ball into the top corner with his right foot.
Camarda, come what may, will remember these 10 days in the United States for the rest of his life. He wasn’t among the initial call-ups, he joined after the first match in New York against Manchester City and now he’s enjoying the moment.
Two nights ago he went to karaoke, sang ‘Sarà perché ti amo’ and drew some mocking from Rafael Leao who said on social media: “Luckily you can play football because you’re a terrible singer.” Alexis Saelemaekers, when he won the go-karting challenge, dedicated an Instagram story to him: “Francesco, next time brother.”
He feels like one of the squad, but after the flight home it will be back to reality. Milan Futuro are training without him at the moment but the plan is clear: he will be their starting striker in their debut Serie C campaign.
He will train a few times with the first team when the time is right and will experience professional football. Last year Francesco played underage in the Primavera – a 2008-born player against many who were two or three years older – but now he will face adults in their 20s and 30s.
Tomorrow night, he will go to Baltimore in a giant stadium to play against Barcelona and not on the PlayStation. Fonseca will probably give him a few minutes at the end, like he did against Real Madrid and just like Barca did with Lamine Yamal last year. And we all know what happened to him after.
