GdS: Ibrahimovic revving up his engine with a Serie A record in sight

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is closing in on being back to full fitness and he could well get his first start of the season tomorrow, according to a report.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Ibrahimovic did some individual work as scheduled at Milanello yesterday and today he will return to training regularly with the rest of the squad in view of tomorrow night’s match against Salernitana.

The Swede is impatient and is a candidate for a starting spot as Olivier Giroud needs some rest and Divock Origi has not yet convinced. The coach will resolve this selection doubt today and the 41-year-old striker hopes for his first start since 23 January 2022 against Juventus.

Obviously Ibra is not in top condition but in recent weeks his physical condition has improved considerably, just as he has increased the minutes he can put more minutes in his legs.

If he were to play and score, Salernitana would become his 33rd victim in the league, while Zlatan would become the oldest player to score a goal in Serie A (at 41 years and 161 days tomorrow), beating former Milan player Alessandro Costacurta (41 years and 25 days).
