GdS: Jimenez to stay at Milan but his role could change under Allegri

Alex Jimenez impressed in several games during the 2024-25 season and according to reports this morning, he’s expected to stay at Milan. However, his role could change under Max Allegri.

Milan signed Jimenez on a permanent basis from Real Madrid last summer, paying €5m for his services, and it ended up being a rather good investment. Of course, the Bernabeu side have a rather favourable buy-back clause, but the Spaniard has made a difference nevertheless.

This past season, the 19-year-old was deployed mainly by Sergio Conceicao, moving between right-back, right wing-back, right-winger and even left-back. In short, he’s a versatile player who could be very useful for someone like Max Allegri.

However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Allegri has already identified a position for Jimenez in his Milan. Rather than a right-back, the manager believes Jimenez’s best qualities are in attack and thus intends to use him as a right-winger this upcoming season.

The manager is expected to field a four-man backline, which would take out the wing-back element, and this would inevitably make the situation a lot more competitive. Especially if Alexis Saelemaekers were to return, though it’s never a bad thing to have squad depth.

It should also be noted that Samuel Chukwueze could say goodbye this summer, which would leave the right flank for Christian Pulisic, Saelemaekers and Jimenez. The American international is also capable of playing as a No.10, so perhaps it would be the perfect balance.

  1. So we’re settled at wings with Leao, Puli, Saele and Jimenez?

What about Liberali? At least extend him and send him on loan or something, we cannot lose the kid.

  2. This is fine and dandy but who (not named Emerson Royale) will be starting at Right Back???! Surely if Max saw all of our games last season as reported he knows by now that the Black Panther to put it mildly; is not the answer!

    1. Ted, you ask what about Liberali? Have you not watched any match Allegri managed? Any player under the age will not get a chance. Whilst the game gets faster most of the delusional fans think Allegri’s boring slowball all men behind the ball is the answer.

  3. Very impulsive from the new coach. For a coach who devoted his time to watch all the games of Milan last season, he surely appears a round peg in a round hole. The crystal ball must have told him to get ready for another time at Milan. Forsa Milan.

    1. Alllegri moving jinez to rw would be the best option if moving to a back 4. He is very much like Theo, super attacking very good in the transition and can carry the ball fairly well on the counter. But his defensive capabilities are not very good. He gets caught very high and is easily beaten, something that everyone gets on theo for.

  4. Why are we even considering a 433 with this squad. We don’t have the personnel, that’s been obvious for months

    1. Actually we do.
The characteristics we have are for 4-3-3 and 3-4-3.
But, in the midfield, we will need at least two well rounded midfielders.

  5. If Allegri does go with a back 4 then Pavlovic and Gabbia CANNOT be the starting pair. This means Milan defense will need a complete revamp and rebuild.

I expect to see defenders like Coppola and Giovanni Leoni signed along with Calafiori.

It would be insane to start the season with Gabbia and Pavlovic as our starting defenders. Both of them should rotation players.
