GdS: Jovic back in time to face Sassuolo – he wants to continue his streak

By Oliver Fisher -

There were some fears that Luka Jovic would become the latest AC Milan player to miss a game due to injury but he is back in the fold and will be available against Sassuolo tonight.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) recalls that Jovic had trained individually earlier in the week but has recovered and will therefore be called up to the squad for the final game of 2023 at San Siro today.

Jovic will start from the bench given that Olivier Giroud has done all the training sessions in preparation. The Serbian had trained separately for a couple of days due to the after-effects of a blow to the ankle suffered during a tackle from Norbert Gyömbér during the draw against Salernitana.

Yesterday, however, the former Fiorentina man trained regularly with the rest of the group. He is feeling much better and today he will represent an additional weapon in the arsenal of Pioli’s Milan to win the match against Alessio Dionisi’s side.

Having started quietly, Jovic improved game after game scoring in each of the last three games against Frosinone, Atalanta and Salernitana. Giroud is without a home league goal since August, so he might just feel some pressure for his spot.

  1. Hopefully he will get a lot more than just a cameo in this game. (I’m surprised Giroud has held up this long without an injury given his age. Maybe the rest of the players just need to copy what he does)
