GdS: Kessie could be away until August 8 but talks over his renewal will continue – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will be without midfielder Franck Kessie for most of preseason but talks over his renewal are set to continue, according to a report.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Kessie’s rest is almost over and the ‘new season’ will begin in a few days for him as he will fly to Japan for the Olympics in Tokyo. Then, at the beginning of 2022 he will leave Milan for Cameroon for the African Cup of Nations.

Coach Patrice Beaumelle has included him as an overage player in the Ivory Coast’s squad list for the Tokyo Games, which will be played from 22 July to 8 August, as Kessie immediately gave his availability when asked. The former Atalanta star was then prompt in informing the club too and Milan would never have prevented his participation in the event as the Olympics are a dream for any athlete.

During the absence of the midfielder, the Rossoneri management and his agent will continue the negotiations for the renewal. Kessie currently earns €2.2m net per season and his entourage asks for €6m, but Milan’s offer is much lower and is around €4m plus bonuses, but there is time to close the gap.
