GdS: Kjaer’s hopes crushed as Milan renewal is increasingly unlikely

By Isak Möller -

Simon Kjaer has previously stated that he would like to end his career at AC Milan, with it being the club he has made the most appearances for. However, the Dane will most likely not be able to fulfil that dream.

Kjaer’s contract will expire at the end of the season and while there was initially some hope for a renewal, this is no longer the case. As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Milan have no intention of renewing the contract as they, instead, want to renew the defensive department.

In the past, Kjaer has stated that he wants to end his career at Milan but these hopes have now been crushed. From the Rossoneri’s perspective, it makes sense as the centre-back will turn 35 later this month, while also struggling with some injuries this season.

The Dabe’s agent Mikkel Beck recently spoke to the media about the future of Kjaer and said the following…

“We haven’t spoken to the club yet about next season. We do that when the time is right for both parties. Simon basically wants to extend, but otherwise he is in a perfect situation as a free transfer in the summer after the Euros with Denmark.”

  1. think its a mistake. He plays for only 2M gross and who wasnt injured this season in def? We need the exp he brings. Probably more than the managment thinks.

We lose Giroud and Kjaer, whats left? Leao the leader of men? Lol

    1. Completely agree.

This summer is going to be another overhaul when you consider the players we’re losing.

In the last 3 summers we’ll have lost Kessie, Ibra, Maldini (as a director), Tonali, and then you add these players.

We’re a shadow of our league winning side and it doesn’t look like we’ll be returning there any time soon.

This season Pioli has actually produced another minor miracle. People don’t get it.

      1. From where I’m sitting it’s his fault we needed a miracle in the first place.

People always mention psg performance. We got a talented bunch. If we had a proper coach we’d have a psg performance almost every game. This way we get wtf they were doing in the last game. And the game before. And the game before..Etc etc

        1. Talented bunch that needs a proper coach and experienced leaders on and off the pitch. Kjaer, Florenzi & Giroud are the ones. And rumors are pushing at least two of them out. If that happens, next season(s) will be a nightmare.

  2. I think it’s better to sell one of the other CBs and reinvest rather than lose a leader who wants to stay and is payed quite a low salary on a free

  3. The melancholy truth is he should not be extended, we have young players who need to play, he is slow and prone to mistakes, at the end of the season, he Florenzi and Giroud need to leave.

    1. ^^ How to say you don’t understand team sports without saying you don’t understand team sports.

Young teams without any experienced leaders have always won lots of trophies, right?

  4. i agree with 80% above of the main comments, no shame in keeping kjær for another season as he might be our biggest leader in the team even if he doesnt play every game. getting rid of both kjær, giroud and florenzi in one window would be super risky but florenzi most likely will stay nevertheless due to his high wages, Personally i wouldnt mind keeping all of them for a year or two moren(individualkly speaking of course), Giroud has freasking contributed with 23 goals/assists combined in 2508 minutes which can be translated to 27.87 full matches played. Come on if that is not good enough then i dont know what will satisfy people, certainly not the next addition either.
