GdS: Lapo Nava was preparing to start over Maignan vs. Fiorentina – the reason

By Oliver Fisher -

Lapo Nava was actually gearing up to make his Serie A debut just over one week ago when AC Milan hosted Fiorentina at San Siro, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) talks about how there is a very alternative reality that could have taken place the weekend before last when Milan welcomed Vincenzo Italiano’s side.

Milan had a slender 1-0 lead heading into the fourth minute of added time and Mike Maignan – who was battling a fever of 39 degrees – produced a save with his face from Rolando Mandragora in the final moments of the game.

Prior to the game though there were doubts about whether Maignan would be able to play at all, and Lapo Nava prepared for a few hours knowing that he could well get the start against La Viola.

With Maignan and Antonio Mirante both having a fever of nearly 40 degrees the fourth-choice goalkeeper – who is technically still on loan from the Primavera while Marco Sportiello recovers – was preparing to start.

However, assessments were made on Maignan and it was decided that the former Lille man was well enough to take to the field, though there were a few moments where he looked a tad dazed.
