GdS: Latest Taremi meeting yields no joy – Origi could be re-integrated

AC Milan do not seem to have made any ground in their pursuit of Mehdi Taremi despite a meeting with intermediaries this evening, it is claimed.

A wide range have sources have claimed this afternoon that the deal is off due to requests from the player and his entourage. However, intermediaries of the deal were present at the club’s headquarters this evening.

According to Luca Bianchin of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the meeting at Casa Milan for Taremi didn’t give the expected results and the chances of the Iranian coming to Milan are very slim now.

The Rossoneri are still willing to complete the operation only with the old agents, under the old conditions. Now the ball passes back to Porto, but with time running out things are further away than they were.

Milan at this point are seriously thinking about not signing another striker. Evaluations are in progress but it is possible that the centre-forwards in the squad until January are Olivier Giroud, Noah Okafor and Divock Origi.

  1. Omg the sad thing about this if it comes true, is that Origi’s stubbornness was rewarded. Encourages more players to behave like this even if we “freeze them out” they can just sit on their cushy contract and we’ll re integrate them later.

    1. Would you say the same if a player with a contract wants to leave the club at no cost? It is what it is my friend. He signed a contract and all he wants is to go with it. You don’t sign a player for 4 years and the suddenly tell him to go away simply like that. When you sign a contract you should also bear the risks and this is the case right now.

      1. Agreed, though not sure how high Origi’s motivation is right now.

We’ve already kinda burned the bridge with him, and his performances last year doesn’t make me think that he’ll do a better job than Colombo. Hope I’m wrong, and Origi understands that this might be his last train

        1. That’s another story but I agree. The motivation is not an issue. He is a professional and he should deal with it. What’s more concerning is his fitness and tactical adaptation. He was injured during the pre-season last year and we all know the outcome. Whatever the case I feel the team didn’t behave nicely in this case and he generally deserves another chance. He is not that bad player in all senses.

      2. @Mikinho

Totally fair point, it is indeed the risk the club takes signing a player on long wages. However usually a player also wants to play games, very rarely is a professional happy to be a bit part/ benchwarmer.

There are many examples of players who accepted either worse wages or joining weaker teams as they want to play, not just pick up a paycheck. Unfortunately Origi doesn’t seem to be one of them, and you’re right that’s a mistake that we are getting burned on.

  2. I dont think using Origi is a good idea. He didnt train with the team, the message was sent to him that he is no longer a part of the project. He will play without motivation or involvment. Plus rewarding such stuborness is giving a wrong message to other players.

  3. They didn’t bring him to pre-season and now they are thinking about this? They should have brough all the players to pre-season, that is the first thing. And second they should have had this in their head from the start and planned that it can happen. But no, why would you have Origi ready for the season. He can already be as bad as it gets, on a good day, but he sure won’t be better without preseason with the team…

Realistically, Milan will go through the CL group with PSG, Dortmund and Newcastle and challenge for Serie A with Giroud, Okafor and Origi? Sounds “great”.

  4. Origi is just a backup and that’s what we need for the moment. It’s better than letting him sit while paying him 4m a year. Who knows he may come back and actually contribute this year. Clearly this season is going to be harder than ever so we need all the help we can get!

  5. Now,

Loaning Colombo, failing to close this deal and refusing to integrate Origi in pre-season, this looks like potential trouble. Depending on Giroud’s performance/helath, Okafor’s integration/health, we are rolling the dice.

Also, If they wanted him as a free-agent, after offering him 1.5 million a year, I am pretty sure you can kiss signing him goodbye in January or next offseason since the bonuses extra demands will increase. Especially if we have a mediocre season and the worse scenario unfolds.

Then all other players might be reticent to join. If all goes well, our leverage and appeal to other players changes.

This sale worked out, we would have been able to confirm it was a great window.

  6. Colombo’s leaving so yeah, if we don’t get any reinforcement, we have to maximize what we got, and that includes Origi.

  7. I still believe that Taremi will be signed but the problem will be last minute paperwork since non EU player but that’s me being optimistic

  8. I can see it now. The GOAT, Origi, comes on in place of injured Giroud in the UCL vs PSG final group stage game and scores the brace along with the game winner to our Man through to the next round. The crowd erupts and goes wild 😁😁😁😁

    1. Lol… Could happen, and even more, he emerges as our most prolific striker this season. It’s a scriped wild twist in the tale 😄😄😁

  9. I personally am happy with the situation and we have a great squad ..We have a team that can compete in our domestic leauge and indeed the champions leauge …Giroud will be a top man for us this season , no doubt about that ..He is capable of scoring 20 goals this season in all competitions,,then what about pulisic ,perhaps another 20 ,.what about Rafeo leao
15 goals plus ,and capable of that many assists ,what about Loftus cheek ,he could be our star man this season,,,not just for scoring some goals and he will , but again he will create many also ,,added to the fact , the height and physical strength he adds to our midfield,,,he can also help out our defence when needed ,,what about Theo Hernandez,,,our goalkeeper Mike ( perhaps the best goalkeeper in the league) the list goes on …
Don’t panic we have the best centre forward than anyone at the moment ,yes Olivier Giroud.
We have back up for him okafar ,or ,yes could well even be origi ( who knows ) he might do the buisiness as he perhaps has something to prove .
Whatever we will challenge for the scuddeto this season ..I have complete confidence in our team and our manager pioli …I am also predicting another win tomorrow against Roma …just listen to this and Olivier Giroud to score again ..now that’s what I call confidence..

  10. It was always a terrible decision not to take him to the US and give him a proper pre season. Hopefully doesn’t come back to bite. Even trying to move him on he’s hardly ready to start for another team.
