GdS: Leao closing in on Milan renewal as parties agree to leave out Sporting fine

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao’s contract will expire in 2024 and AC Milan have been working on a renewal for quite some time. An agreement is now close as the parties have found a compromise, as a report claims.

The negotiations between Milan and Leao’s entourage have been tough, but the Rossoneri have seemingly always made a little progress. Despite the high demands, they have made their will to make a serious effort clear.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, the latest offer on the table is worth €7-7.5m including bonuses. The fine that Leao owes to Sporting no longer concerns the renewal talks and will be a matter for the player and Lille to handle.

The only problems that remain are the commission that Leao’s agents want for signing the renewal, as well as the €150m release clause. Milan understandably want to remove this but it might prove difficult, with a meeting scheduled for next week.

  1. In my opinion as long as Leao sign a new contract at least until 2027, it’s all right to leave the release clause intact, as long as its not reduced. Better yet if they could change it to £180-200m.

I don’t believe any club would be willing to splash that amount for unfinished article like Leao, and even if they would, we will be in a good position to replace him with someone valued around £50m and use the rest for strengthening other areas.

  2. I’m convinced we won’t invest the money properly or even at all so we have to hope big time to renew. It is massive for us.

  3. We are waiting for – signature.
Good news is – some Milan players do have bigger contracts, and player salaries should be bigger if they managed to reach bigger Serie a And CL results. Unproven players in Serie a like Dest and Origi, should get lower, untill they prove quality. Players like Rebic can stay untill contract expirY, and not get renewal, if continue with bad performance. It is OK to have salary cap, we dont need Messi or Ziyech with his salary but more important is to reach bigger revenue.
