GdS: Leao looking increasingly lost as goal drought continues

By Oliver Fisher -

Rafael Leao is in a real rut at the moment right when AC Milan need his goals and his creativity most, a report has claimed.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Stefano Pioli has always defended Leao staunchly, while Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara continue to reiterate that his renewal is a priority. His current contract expires in 2024 and both sides want to reach an agreement, with Leao’s entourage hoping to get €7.5m net per season while Milan have so far not matched those demands.

On the field Leao seems dazed and against Udinese he didn’t have an impact, while against Salernitana he was the worst and only once in the last 11 games has he had a performance close to the levels expected, which was the first leg against Spurs.

Leao is back to what he was two seasons ago: an inconsistent talent that made Pioli claim that he must have ‘more fun’ on the field, which led to the Scudetto and the title of Serie A MVP.

His last goal dates back to January 14 against Lecce, then nothing since. Since Pioli switched to three-man defence, his performance has worsened. To show his best qualities and help the team, he needs space out wide and the fact he has only scored 8 goals in 40 games as a striker shows that.

  1. Every end is beginning of something new.

Next season Milan don’t reach any European competition equals to selling Leao for any price. Possibility is also to release all players without any impact any game play, and bring couple of ordinary players.

This imagination with young players doesn’t bring good results on pitch.
