GdS: Maignan reports for France duty after surviving second injury scare

By Oliver Fisher -

Mike Maignan has survived a couple of recent injury scares and will be available for France over the international break, according to a report.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports this morning, Maignan’s knee had been put to the test in a clash with Vlcek in the return leg against Slavia Prague last Thursday. After a couple of attempts to play on, he ended up handing the gloves to Marco Sportiello.

However it was nothing serious, so much so that Maignan was also on the pitch on Sunday afternoon against Hellas Verona, but he again emerged again in bandages. After a save on Swiderski, one of his decisive stops, he felt some discomfort in his thigh.

Nonetheless, he answered the French national team’s call-up, also receiving Didier Deschamps’ definitive coronation as he said: “Maignan is our number one”.

The tests he underwent here confirmed the good feelings so now he will be available for the matches against Germany and Chile next Saturday and Tuesday.

Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez have also been called up by France. In total they are three of the 12 internationals that have left Milanello. The others: Simon Kjaer, Yunus Musah, Christian Pulisic, Noah Okafor, Luka Jovic, Jan-Carlo Simic, Tijjani Reijnders, Ismael Bennacer and Rafa Leao.
