GdS: How Maldini, Massara and Moncada operate on a daily basis at Milan

By Isak Möller -

Behind the recent success of AC Milan, we find the teamwork of Paolo Maldini, Ricky Massara and Geoffrey Moncada. With very specific roles and good chemistry, they have been able to build a winning Rossoneri side.

Milan surprised almost everyone when they managed to clinch the Scudetto at the end of May. On paper, Stefano Pioli didn’t have the strongest team and yet, they performed the best throughout the course of the season.

As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport, Milan need to praise their manmagement and especially three men: Maldini, Massara and Moncada. The technical director, the sporting director and the chief scout of the club.

The hierarchy is very clear: Maldini and Massara outline the strategies for the club and choose the targets. Once the latter part is done, the scouting department and Moncada come into action. Moncada has a team of ten scouts that he decides where to send and when.

Various platforms, such as for stats, are also used by the scouting department and the whole system is now very advanced. Above all, though, Moncada’s skill lies in when and where to send scouts to observe certain players.

The three usually take stock of the situation every fortnight but sometimes, the meetings at Casa Milan are more frequent (every week). During these meetings, Moncada presents the scouting reports and from there on, Maldini and Massara decide whether to move forward (for example, to initiate talks with agents).

There is great respect for the work being done and by the looks of it, Milan have hit a homerun with this management.
