GdS: Maldini and Massara set to renew next week – then focus on mercato

By Isak Möller -

In the last 24 hours, there has been quite a lot of talk about the renewals of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. AC Milan’s mercato pursuits have been blocked because of this matter but now a solution appears close.

As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport ( see photo below), the renewals are indeed close and the total agreements should arrive next week. After that, Maldini and Massara will be able to focus solely on the Mercato.

They have several targets in mind and they intend to bring in some high-quality reinforcements, seeing as they want to defend the Scudetto. Divock Origi is already a done deal and the likes of Sven Botman, Renato Sanches and Charles De Ketelaere are also top targets.

As for Sanches, Paris Saint-Germain have entered the race and are ready to offer a higher transfer fee. That might be the price Milan will have to pay for the renewal delay, but soon the directors will work tirelessly to reinforce the team.

  1. They still use the fake prize. Lille never agree to 15m, they want 30m to begin with, unlike what the media previously said.

  2. Fans need to stop overreacting on every news about Milan transfer target.
Renato isn’t signing for Psg today. It just a report that they are interested. Newcastle has been offering a boatload more to both Lille and Botman but he is still waiting on Milan.
Maldini and Massara have been negotiating with these 2 for over 6 months., relationships have been built where they wil wait another week for Milan new owner and Maldini to finish planning the new club structure .
    Relax .
Setting up a stable base for long term success is more important than potentially missing on 1 or 2 transfer targets. New owner purchased the club not even a month ago. Let them work in peace.
No team has signed anyone, even inter , that’s all just rumors, I haven’t seen dybala , Lukaku or Bremer holding inter jersey, I haven’t seen pogba or DiMaria holding Juventus jersey

    1. It is because everyone knows that Inter doesn’t have money. They need to sell to sign. So, you are saying it is ok to invest in something without actually knowing what will you do from day 1? Wow

      1. Inter doesn’t have money

Milan doesn’t have available spot for non-homegrown players over 21 years old.

Kalulu is turning 22 in the new season so he will take one of the spot.

        1. Yes, anyone following Serie A knows that Inter sold Lukaku and Hakimi because they had huge loses, just to cover them. This year they can’t sign anyone without selling.

Dude, the point you made is the most non-existent I’ve ever seen. A few players are leaving, obviously. But we still have owners that don’t know what is happening 20 days after they bought the club. US leeches don’t put money in.

          1. How do you know the owners don’t know what they are doing? You are basing everything you claim on contradictory rumours from different media publications and like the rest of us have absolutely no insight as to what is really happening. You could be right but you are also likely wrong and there is an actual plan they have been following. Either way, to make these claims as facts is simply wrong.

          2. We are losing the transfers Maldini prepared for over 6 months. That definitely looks like someone wasn’t prepared and has no clue what are they doing. If that is fine for you ok, but I don’t care what you think.

        2. Academy Product (4 slots are dedicated for them):
          1. Plizari
          2. Calabria
          3. Gabbia
          4. Pobega

Homegrown (4 slots are dedicated for them, can also be used by academy product as they are also homegrown):
          1. Tonali

          Non-Homegrown (maximum 17):
          1. Maignan
          2. Tatarusanu
          3. Theo
          4. Balo-Toure
          5. Tomori
          6. Kalulu
          7. Kjaer
          8. Bennacer
          9. Krunic
          10. Bakayoko
          11. Adli
          12. Brahim
          13. Saelemaekers
          14. Castellajo
          15. Leao
          16. Rebic
          17. Giroud

          U-21:
          Maldini
          Lazetic

          Contract Pending:
          Romagnoli (Homegrown)
          Florenzi (Homegrown)
          Messias (Non-Homegrown)
          Origi (Non-Homegrown)
          Ibrahimovic (Non-Homegrown)

Florenzi and Romagnoli (if he renew) can be registered right away as there are 3 slots available for homegrown players.

To register Messias, Origi, and Ibrahimovic, 3 non-homegrown players need to be cut from the squad. The prime candidatea are Castillejo (sell), Bakayoko (end loan), and Adli (loan out).

If Milan sign Botman and Sanches, who will they cut??? Replacing Tatarusanu or Balo-Toure with Italian players might work (both of them in case Romagnoli do not renew). But then Milan won’t have space for de Ketelaere or others.

It’s impossibility for Milan to sign all those names without big overhaul of the squad.

          1. I don’t have time for this idiocy. You are saying Maldini, Massara and others don’t know this and they just wanted to sign players randomly? The obviusly have a plan if they are ready to sign someone. Stop wasting my time with something that is a technical thing, people at club are paid to think about that.

          2. According to Fabrizio Romano . AC Milan Will sign Florenzi that Will make 3 playerhomegrown from Italian club . Tonali,Mirante,Florenzi. Probably they Will replace ballo Toure with Italian left back like Cambiasso, that Will make 4 slot. Bakayoko Will be out replace by pobega. Junior Will replace castilejo. 2 new player Will replace Romagnoli & kessie. One of saele & Brahim maybe replace by CDK

          3. Additional note:

Last season Milan do not have this issue as Kalulu was still U-21 (along with Plizari, Tonali, Maldini, Pellegri, and Lazetic). Plizari, Kalulu, and Tonali are no longer U-21 for the new season.

    2. This. I’m glad that someone still calm and making sense. Just tired reading the $tupid overreaction and business experts comment in here.

        1. You misunderstod my comments. I never said Maldini/Massara do not understand squad restriction.

Wha I am saying is those rumours claiming Maldini want this or that players are just stupid rumours from media who want to make news.

    3. Sadly, you are simply wasting your breath here. Most commenters here are classic overreactors who refuse to listen to any alternative views and drown out the few fans that have a well thought out view they wish to express. It is a pity as I love talking about my club with other fans but have a really hard time cutting through the nonsense to actively participate in conversations as often as I would like. I am sure I will get ripped apart for this post but so be it.

      1. I’m with you mate. It’s hard to have a nice and calm discussion in here because like you said most commenters only wants to overreact and angry without thinking.

I even have doubt that those people are trolls and not Milan fans.

  3. If next week Maldini & Masara renew and announced they got the deal with new players, i hope some commenters in here stop acting like a football & business expert who have decades of experiences working in a big football club like Milan.

Really, you’re free to speculate all you want. But stop acting as if all those $hits that coming from your mouth is the truth.

  4. NOTHING ABOUT MILAN IS EVER DEFINITE

…FROM THE SIMPLE & CHEAP PURCHASE OF THE CLUB (COMPARED TO OTHERS) TO THE REINSTATEMENT OF THE MANAGERS, DOWN TO THE ACQUISITION OF PLAYERS FOR TEAM UPGRADE & REINFORCEMENT FOR THE SERIA AND C_LEAGUE …MILAN IS BACK WITH THE BIG BOYS AGAIN

FANS GET FRUSTRATED WITH THIS CLUB’S ATTITUDE SOMETIMES BECAUSE THEY ARE FORCED TO MAKE A MENTAL COMPARISON WITH OTHER CLUBS WHICH SWIFTLY RENEWED THEIR OWNERS & CLUBS WHICH CLAIM THEIR ACCOUNT’S BOOKS ARE BALANCED.

  5. @crorossonero

Transfer prepared over 6 months? Did you even read Maldini’s interview. At that interview Maldini basically confirm that they are talking with Origi but not with Botman because he think Kalulu is good enough.

Maldini and Massara know their thing, they understand squad restriction. Those rumours saying Maldini want power, want this player or that players are just fabricated by the media to make news.

    1. Yelnats, don’t waste your time with him. It won’t help to try to talk sense to the trolls. There are a bunch on here who will complain no matter what, because in their feeble minds they know it all while in fact they show their ignorance with every post.

    2. @Yelnats24, u r the one to make the most sense in these comment sections. No wonder why I avoid. It’s filled with people pretending like they know how to negotiate 1.2 billion dollar take over deals when clearly they don’t have a clue. These things take time. Chelsea took 3 months from the day it was put up for sale to close their takeover. These fools hv no clue.
All these reports are just click baits. Only one interview with Maldini should be taken seriously and it’s the one saying that there are targets other than Botman. Wrt Sanchez, no one has any clue.
