GdS: Milan expect summer budget to be boosted by sale of €32m pair

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are planning an ambitious summer transfer window that should see them make signings in each department, and they have a plan to help finance the incoming operations too.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan will invest a large part of their budget on a new striker but they will also sign adefensive midfielder and a full-back, with two names are circled on their wish list: Emerson Royal and Youssouf Fofana.

The Spurs defender and the Monaco midfielder would cost around €50m in transfer fees (€30m and €20m respectively), and that remains a significant sum for Milan who look for value in every signing that they make.

Thus, it will require in-depth evaluations especially since the Rossoneri plan to invest more or less the same amount for the new centre-forward, which makes the summer spending potentially around €100m before any other signings have been taken into consideration.

However, an assist can come from Charles De Ketelaere and Alexis Saelemaekers. Atalanta and Bologna will exercise their option to buy clauses and they should bring in around €32m combines.

The other road leads to a Tonali-style signing, i.e. a star player sold for a monstrous sum. This scenario is not in Milan’s plans, but it can never be ruled out while there is interest from top clubs.

  1. David 50m
    Calafiori 50m
    Buongiorno 50m
    Emerson 30m
    Total: 180m

    Budget 50m
    Selling CDK and Saladamaker 32m
    Total : 82m

We will need fresh fund about 90m-100m to go signing great players.

    1. There is also Daniel Maldini for around 5M I think and perhaps a selling this summer.
Also I don’t think we will purchase all of the players above if any. Emerson isn’t needed since that position is full and Buongiorno is not a priority.

    2. We wont sign calafiori , he is juve main target . Also JD not 50m euro only around 30m euro because his contract 1 years left & he reject lille new contract offer. Bungiorno opsional maybe come ,maybe not depend on torino asking price . DMF will coming but just with price 20-25m euro ( management refuse if 30m euro ++ DMF )

  2. There are many players to sell to raise funds

    CDK and Alexis

    Krunic
    Messias
    Ballo Toure
    Pobega
    Romero
    Pellegrino

Origi can hopefully leave for free

Really no necessity to sell a star player.
Add 50m usual budget to about 60m from the above = 110

Then we have 50m for a striker
20 -30m for DM like Hojbjerg or Amrabat
Leaving 30 to 40 for perhaps a CB or other tweaks

The problem is convincing the big boys to stay

    1. CDK and Alexis will give us around 35M total.
      Maldini around 5M.
Krunic is already sold for 3,5M.
      That’s 40-45M.
That leaves Messias, Touré, Origi,… who would be hard to offload.
Even thought I don’t necessarly want it, but Maignan would probably be sold.
There doesn’t seem to be an offer for Leao so far, so keeping him might be easier.
The big problem is keeping Theo, which is a must.

      1. Yeah I think Thiaw, Kalulu, Tomori, gabbia and Simic would be fine.
Though Kalulu is likely to play more on the right.

The sooner we have a manager lined up, the sooner we can plan formation and that is essential before making purchases.

If we play 433, there is no need for AM

        1. The fact that Kalulu can play RB and CB (and LB?) is a huge asset as it means we can rotate using the same players and it keeps things really tight.

Stone plays CB, RB and DM for Man City. Most of the really top sides

By ‘AM’ I mean a midfielder who will create and score goals and open up other teams whether it’s in a 433 or 4231 or whatever.

And we desperately need someone who can score a free kick, or at least back one of the current players. We don’t seem to have any consistent dead ball specialists (albeit it doesn’t seem to have impacted our corners this season).

          1. Pulisic can play as AM and he is definetly creative and can score goals. Aside from him, Bennacer and Reijnders can do it provided you give them a DM who can cover them defensively.
The set pieces seem to be a problem in our team. The (new?) coach needs to work extra hard or that or the “algorithm” needs to take that into account when looking for new players. But it doesn’t necessarly need to be a midfielder.

        1. To back up that perception a bit, I also think that having a defensive midfielder and/or a midfielder who is good at defending + a tactical system that is more oriented towards zonal defending and that doesn’t expose us when we lose possession will already do wonders to help us improve defensively. Some of the best “defenses” in the world or even in history didn’t necessarly have a back made entierly of world-class defenders.
Now I’m not against a guy like Scalvini, Calafiori or Buorgiorno but I think the priority is a striker and a defensive midfielder.

    2. We are lucky if can get rid origi, ballo toure, florenzi salary from ACM account. Origi get 4m euro nett . Caldara will be out too at the end of season ( 2,5m euro nett salary) .

  3. Here we go….all 43 (excluding some real randomers):

    Mike Maignan
    Marco Sportiello
    Lapo Nava LOAN
    Antonio Mirante
    Devis Vásquez SELL
    Marco Pellegrino SELL
    Davide Calabria
    Fodé Ballo-Touré SELL
    Davide Bartesaghi

Simon Kjær KEEP FOR EXPERIENCE AND LEADERSHIP
    Malick Thiaw

    Alexis Saelemaekers SELL
    Lorenzo Colombo SELL
    Divock Origi SELL
    Emil Roback SELL
    Luka Romero SELL
    Chaka Traorè SELL

That would give us a squad of about 24 (excluding youth players) if we added a DM, AM and CF:

    Mike Maignan
    Marco Sportiello
    Antonio Mirante
    Davide Bartesaghi
    Davide Calabria
    Théo Hernandez
    Pierre Kalulu
    Fikayo Tomori
    Simon Kjær
    Malick Thiaw
    Alessandro Florenzi
    Matteo Gabbia
    Ismaël Bennacer
    DM
    Ruben Loftus-Cheek
    Tijjani Reijnders
    Yunus Musah
    AM
    Rafael Leão
    Christian Pulisic
    Noah Okafor
    Samuel Chukwueze
    CF
    Luka Jović

I’ll leave it to the money people and the scouts to find out who to sign!

      1. There’s no space.

We need to get the squad down to a manageable level if the next Maldini is to stand a chance.

We could let Jovic go and bring back Maldini or he could be our answer to the AM position in a 4231.

      1. I don’t like “excessive, stupid and pointless transfers” and I hate having a ridiculously massive squad!

  4. Joke of d highest order… Emerson royal is not better than any of d 3 RB we have…. It’s a waste of funds….
