GdS: Milan prepare for emotional goodbye to Ibrahimovic – where he could go next

By Oliver Fisher -

The day had to come sooner or later, and AC Milan will bid farewell to Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a ceremony at San Siro after tonight’s games.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports, there had been rumours throughout the season that Ibrahimovic would leave Milan given the numerous injury problems that he has battled and the fact he has only been able to make four appearances.

Zlatan will not be on the pitch tonight, even though he would have liked to and he did everything to be there. His body has suffered a lot this year and it still won’t let him go back to playing.

After the final whistle tonight against Verona, Milan will pay homage to one of its greatest champions in recent history. The club will give him a symbolic gift, the fans will show their appreciation then Ibra will sit down at a press conference and will answer questions about his future.

Adriano Galliani’s Monza seems the most obvious destination if the 41-year-old were to keep playing. His relationship with the former Milan CEO is excellent, the project ambitious and the city close to Milan where he lives and to Segrate where he has opened a new Padel centre.

At San Siro tonight it will be almost like a double goodbye. When Ibrahimovic left Milan for the first time in the summer of 2012, he did so almost by surprise, sold to PSG out of necessity in the summer and without the possibility of a farewell to the fans.

In his first two season he scored 56 goals and won a Scudetto and a Supercoppa. Then after spells in France, England and the USA came the great return which changed Milan’s course and helped them grow.

He took a young group by the hand to the top of Italy once again, eleven years later. Tonight at around 23:00 CEST Milan will say goodbye to a legend, who has given all he has to the club.
