GdS: Milan evaluate goalkeeping duo for post-Donnarumma era – the situation

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have a clear priority: to renew Donnarumma’s contract which will expire in 2021. The youngster has been a key player for the club in recent years and losing him for free would be a disaster.

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), a pay rise is out of the question for the goalkeeper, who currently earns €6m per year. In short, somehow, the parties will have to meet in the middle.

Milan won’t allow him to leave for free next year, as it would be a sensational own goal from an economic point of view. The first move, which will come when training is fully underway, will be up to the Rossoneri as they need to convince Donnarumma.

It’s clear that Gigio loves the red and black colours, but more so than money, Milan will need a convincing project to keep him. In other words: ideas and ambitions for the upcoming season and the future in general.

However, the possibility of a departure must be taken into account. And the Rossoneri will have to be ready for other solutions. Per the newspaper, they could opt for an internal one, with Pepe Reina and Alessandro Plizzari as the goalkeepers.
