GdS: Milan make further contact with Portuguese coach – the details

Stefano Pioli’s successor is yet to be confirmed, and with his final game set to take place this weekend, a decision must be made soon. However, AC Milan are seemingly making advancements with one of their preferred candidates.

This weekend’s clash against Salernitana signifies the end of an era. An era which has had its highs, and an era that has had its lows. An era led by Pioli for five years.

The Italian deserves his flowers for his achievements, and he is leaving the club in a much better place than when he took the reigns. A scudetto and re-emergence into the European scene, the foundations are there for the next manager to build on.

However, the one chosen to be the builder is still yet to be decided, and the situation is entering a critical moment. Pioli’s departure is approaching, and there is not a clear front-runner, given the situation continues to change.

This morning, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan) reported that the contacts between Paulo Fonseca have been on the increase, and ‘his phone has not stopped ringing’. Given the Portuguese manager has Serie A experience, he could be the ideal candidate to inspire the Rossoneri to further success.

The report suggests that contact between the club and Fonseca have never stopped, which suggests their admiration of him could be much higher than perceived.

  1. Roma fans loved him even though he never finished top 4 but given the squad he had makes sense. I don’t get why so many people are against him as if they know what type of football we will play under him. Bayern might appoint Vincent Kompany even though his team just got relegated. Foncesca for me sounds better than Pioli 4 years ago and Pioli did get us back to the champions league and win us the league. Fans are just making everything worse if the management does listen to the fans and the team underperforms they will just start complaining again and again as if they know better!

  2. No wonder Theo wants to leave, this management is a disgrace if they hire someone worse that Pioli like Fonseca or Van Bommel.maybe you want to add Rudi Garcia to your smart list of candidates.
Bring a top tier manager, aim higher, this team should fight for the Scudetto and not the fifth place which your candidates can barely get.

    1. And which manager would that be?? Tuchel is the only option I can think of but even he has been underperforming just like De Zerbi so who is left?

      1. That’s a good question and the answer is subjective to everyone’s opinion and way of evaluating coaches so here is my list but let me know what do you think and if you have a list :
Conte: proved track in winning leagues and news from his negotiations with Napoli showes that he is willing to reduce his demands.

Galtier: Awesome job with all clubs he managed, in my opinion he was the best PSG manager so far even with all the Nymar drama when he was their.

Lucien Favre: Also a great work in all his teams and awesome track of developing talents in his teams with a good experience in CL.

Hansi Flick: Turned Bayern Munich into an awesome team, the last manager that was able to get the best out of the current squad. He is trying to get a job in PL but I am surprised Milan didn’t even consider him.

Allegri: why not, he will definitely love to crush Juventus even more than we Milan fans do but I don’t think Ibrahimovic likes him and he is expensive.

Enzo Maresca: after a bad experience in Parma he excelled in Leicester City and won the league, there are rumors of economical issues that could push him to leave Leicester.

    2. Omg, Rudy Garcia is missing 🫣🫣🫣🫣 unbelievable. Fonseca is worst then Pioli. I would preferred Abate.

  3. For all the grumpiness about Fonseca, it is worth saying he’s been doing a very good job with Lille despite the loss of a lot of players. He’s not likely someone PSG would hire, but we’re not in that sort of position either.

  4. Omg, what the hell are they doing????, this management is at the same level of the Chinese ownership. 🫣🫣🫣😡😡

  5. This reminds me of the time when Milan hired Pioli, people said that Pioli had never won Scudetto, he is mediocre, and not good enough. It turned out he gave us 1 Scudetto.

It might be a gamble to hire Fonseca, but I will give it a try. His Roma is not worse than Mourinho’s Roma (both can’t get Roma to UCL), and he did quite well in Lille (although not excellent).

When we hired Ancelloti, Sacchi, Zac, Allegri, they were not well proven manager during those time, but all of them gave us Scudetto.
