GdS: Milan hold positive talks with Chelsea over midfielder who is ‘on the launching pad’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are pushing for the return of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea as the fourth choice midfielder, according to a report.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) writes that Bakayoko – who just returned to Chelsea after a season on loan at Napoli – is eager to play for Milan again but patience is needed because negotiating with the Premier League side is far from straightforward.

Nonetheless, the paper states that Bakayoko is ‘on the launching pad’ implying he will leave this summer and the dialogue with Chelsea is now positive. It remains to be understood under what conditions the Frenchman could return, because without a renewal the Blues cannot loan him out again (contract expiring in 2022) and it seems difficult to think that Milan will invest €15m to buy him.

It could be that Milan turn to other targets in Ligue 1 if they cannot secure Bakayoko or perhaps they may try and adapt Tommaso Pobega to that role in preseason after an excellent campaign at Spezia.
