GdS: Milan to rely on Saelemaekers and his ‘knack’ for important goals

By Isak Möller -

Alexis Saelemaekers will replace Rafael Leao on the left flank in Milan’s clash against Inter this evening. Although it’s a blow to not have the Portuguese winger available, it’s not a disaster for the Rossoneri.

Leao sustained a minor injury in the game against Lazio and he was replaced by Saelemaekers on the left. That will be the case for tonight’s big Derby della Madonnina as well, and the Belgian has a lot to prove.

As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport, the former Anderlecht man has stepped up lately and is in very good form. He scored a great solo goal in the 4-0 win against Napoli and then salvaged a point at the death against Roma. He knows, therefore, what it’s like to score in important moments.

Coincidentally, the referee for tonight’s game is Jesus Gil Manzano, who officiated Rio Ave-Milan. And in that clash, Saelemaekers not only started to the left but also scored a decisive goal. Perhaps it’s a good omen not just for Milan (since that game and win meant a lot) but also the Belgian.
